The missing bait (I'm using almond butter that we didn't like but the mice seem

Should be one that makes the pivot, the toothy adjuster and a third on the
backside (bolt head to the firewall) that actually provides the resistance to
movement.
On my '78 I only need to loosen the tension bolt, tighten the toothy adjuster
and retighten the tension bolt. 2 second process.

Ideally the spot where the temperature sender is.
But it's not too critical, the hottest (non-manifold!) spot
will probably do.

Well, therein lies the problem. I only see two bolts, the toothy
one at the top and a pivot bolt at the bottom, both currently loose.
Where would the third bolt be?
I went out and took a close look at the Frankenheap. There are
three bolts. The toothed one, the pivot bolt at the bottom,
I can't move it by hand to get any tightness on the belt.
You don't, you use a box-end wrench on the toothed bolt head.
Set the belt tension that way, hold it in place with the one
wrench while you tighten the nut on the back with another wrench.
Don't move the toothed head any while doing
Oh, and as I recall the toothed bolt can get out of sync
on the rack and not have full travel. (It only has teeth
partially around it.) So make sure the teeth can engage
the full length of the travel on the rack.

of usual suspects when dealing with an over heating issue.
Does the car still have coolant in it? A coolant leak would do that too.
A blown head gasket will cause overheating also.

I had a nice 82 R65 myself. Good smaller bike that allows you to be sporty as
well as good for short touring. Got it used in 1990 for $2k and sold it a few
years ago for $2200. Mostly considered a girls bike due to the size and
inseam height. Good range, simple and elegant
