Some states have farm registration. You could claim tree farm. Restrictions vary but doing hauling for farm should be ok. We have an annual inspection for everything. I suspect bigger trucks have a different one but I don't know at what point. I think through the 1 ton they're still considered pickup trucks. My folks have done pretty well and are at the point where they are ready to enjoy it if dad wants an big truck we get a big truck. :) Really what we need is a larger dump trailer. We hauled gravel in May with the little dump cart behind my Cub Cadet. While the Cub Cadet is in a whole different class than any garden tractor you can buy today it was still over matched by a full dump cart. For its part the cart bent a little more on each load and I was surprised we didn't blow the tires. We loaded it with the excavator so it was no problem to load but kind of difficult to limit yourself when you're loading. Actually truth be told the road lasted 10 years before it really fell apart. Last fall dad had a guy bulldoze it back into the right shape. If we had to pay somebody every 10 years it'd be no big whoop compared to keeping a truck and little loader tractor and hauling a couple loads of gravel every year... Rick, thanks, that's the video I was thinking of. I had the author wrong, and down in the comments is one from the author about turning the valve spring retainer to adjust the valve clearance at the TIGHTEST (?) point. That didn't make sense to me, I would imagine that the retainer would trend to find the most loose point and settle there. Yeah I looked at that too. Sweet. I was over launching my kayaks a few weeks back and there was this really hot chick maybe mid 30s who was putting a coupla kayaks into a tall long Sprinter van. There were 2 or 3 boys around who appeared to be hers. The van was outfitted with seats and then racks in back for toys, including the yaks and bikes below and some other stuff (cooler, etc.) It was all made of oak, she said some friend fabbed it up for them. I forget where they were from, but she said they did lots of road trips and with the boys and all their impedimenta the thing fit their needs well. Heck if you're going that far you'd might as well go for a 1 1/2 ton F-450. Dad and I have talked about getting an old dump truck for camp. Its been interesting looking at trucks from the 30s-60s. Generally speaking for the price of a pickup I can have a 1 1/2 - 5 ton truck thats in better condition with half the miles. People don't want the big trucks I guess. Dad is looking into building a new garage to house all these toys in. If he keeps it up we'll have to buy the farm next door just to keep stuff on. But the frame surrounding the burners appears to be stainless steel or else is chrome plated. And yes, I think alcohol is preferred on a boat. Some use propane but it can be dangerous as it will settle in the bilges if it leaks and might be accidently ignited. Actually, what you said is true of compressed natural gas, as opposed to LP (aka propane), which is heavier than air. The main advantage of alcohol in marine applications (vs Diesel or kerosene) is that water extinguishes alcohol fires pretty well. On the other hand, alcohol does not burn as hot, it's costly per BTU, and the flame is invisible in sunlight. Also, pressurized systems burn hotter but are considerably less safe than wick-style systems. Stoves on cruising monohull sailboats are almost always gimbaled. I pulled into the drive, put it in park, turned off the engine, and it started to roll back. Fiddled with the gear shift until it managed to start, fiddled some more, and finally got it into gear. Drove it behind the house and into the shop. Very lucky because working on it in the driveway in the hot summer sun wouldn't have been much fun.
