Yeah apparently folks are hoarding gasolina like it it 2020 TP. Stations around
here have run out. I filled up 2 vehicles at Costco Friday and Sunday in
anticipation of this mess so I’m good for awhile.

Yeah, much more dangerous than the LPG, anhydrous ammonia, or sulfuric acid
they transport routinely and in great quantity! The crude oil and molten
sulfur is
tame by comparison.

One of my favorite things about a 240D is that it'll easily drive up onto a
set of ramps. Mine are also old Sears ramps. To get my Jetta up on ramps
requires 3 pieces of 2x6 to make a ramp so the front air dam doesn't hit.

Hi John,
It’s not terribly difficult can you definitely need the car raised up a bit
to get under it. It’s something that’s pretty straightforward on a lift,
so any competent shop should be able to do it if your not up for it. Just
be sure genuine MB parts are used. Lots of shops cut corners

Jaime,
Thank you, this is the explanation I was hoping for. I guess I’d need to get
under the car to do this? I don’t have a safe way to do that, may need to take
it to a shop (there is a good one near here). Can the shifter bushings be
replaced from inside the car?

A set of ramps is usually pretty easy. Son just welded the muffler back on
the 190D using a set of green pressed steel ramps. (Old Sears product?)

I think Jamie is right. My '85 190D had some weird shifter issues, it's been a
long time but I remember not being able to find reverse reliably and having to
push it out of a couple parking spaces. New shifter bushings fixed it.
