I think that is indeed the case, particularly for a tank filled with
diesel.

It was a curt adapter I believe.

I replaced the tail light module, and problem was solved, at first. As I

to being my fault because I did not tell her how to plug it in, the damn
lights came back on.  The module has 4 harnesses that plug into it.  I

were back to working like they should.  The module slides into a bracket
which them bolts to the frame.  I was going to leave it loose to make
sure it actually continued to work, but then decided to go ahead and
mount it as it was working fine.  As soon as I started messing with it,
the lights came back on and I could not get them back off.  I looked at
the individual wires coming directly out of the connector on the truck

Re: [MBZ] 116 fuel tank cleaning

2022-10-24 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
Yea I am just going to seal it, I already ordered a kit.  When these
tanks are new, or under normal conditions, are they coated with
something that keeps them from rusting?  Or is it a case once the tank
does rust and you clean it off, it will then rust again very fast?  I am
just wondering what keeps them from rusting with normal use?  I guess
maybe it gets fresh fuel circulated thru it often enough that it leaves
a coating on the bare metal keeping it from rusting.

The bare steel will rust quickly; you need to either put gasoline in it
(I think), or seal it. Probably sealing it would be better.

[MBZ] 116 fuel tank cleaning

2022-10-24 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
I have been working on this tank on and off for a while.  I used vinegar
and got it pretty clean, but I do not think its clean enough yet.  I put
some drywall screws in there and have been shacking it around on
occasion and will rinse it out with water again.  It seems like it was
clean but has since surface rusted again, or so it seems.  Perhaps I
should just do one of those kits with a 3 part cleaner, rust cleaner,
then sealer.  I see a POR15 one, as well as one made by KBS.  If I do
get the tank clean, will it stay clean or does it need to be sealed?

Yep, it does, and you would think it would only go in one way. However
if you try hard enough, it will go in just fine upside down.  With these
adapters they sometimes do not have a big enough of a tab to prevent
this.  Its not hard to get it in upside down but goes in smooth with it
correct.

I guess on the bright side if she was towing it with the GL and the trailer
wiring shorted, it might have fried the rear Sam. It looks like the brake like
module in the back that I suspect it fried is only $25 at the flaps.

And pardon my asking, but was this with a 7 pin (round) trailer connector?
Those have a rib on the plug that will only allow it to be inserted into the
socket one way. I’m confused.

2022-10-24 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
I figured out what she did.  She managed to plug the adapter in upside
down which sent the 12 volt acc straight to the ground of the 4 flat on
the trailer.  It burned that wire all the way to the frame of the
trailer.  In looking at the adapter, the 4 flat ground is fused to the
adapter and I can't even unplug it.

I replaced the tail light module, and problem was solved, at first. As I
was explaining to the wife what she did, which she then turned it back
to being my fault because I did not tell her how to plug it in, the damn
lights came back on.  The module has 4 harnesses that plug into it.  I
started pulling them and replacing, and somehow got them off.  Lights
were back to working like they should.  The module slides into a bracket
which them bolts to the frame.  I was going to leave it loose to make
sure it actually continued to work, but then decided to go ahead and
mount it as it was working fine.  As soon as I started messing with it,
the lights came back on and I could not get them back off.  I looked at
the individual wires coming directly out of the connector on the truck
and none appeared to be melted.  I guess I will have to take a closer
look as there has to be something melted within the harness.  I hope it
did not screw up the new module, or possibly the old module was not
really bad.

Re: [MBZ] 722.9 4m teardown and rebuild

2022-10-24 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
It’s not at all. I’ve rebuilt domestic slushboxes some years back, and other
than what you point out, it’s not a difficult job at all. It doesn’t even
require any specialized tools for the most part, basically a good pair of
expanding ring pliers.

If you had a place to do the work where you could lay everything out as you
disassemble/reassemble it would be pretty simple. It’s mostly just popping
clutches open, replacing the frictions and steels, bearings and seals, and
putting everything back together.

I haven't worked on a transmission it but seems to me the biggest things are
cleanliness and keeping track of all the parts. If you are methodical and
organized and not in a hurry it doesn't seem too intimidating.

Just finished watching this video during my lunch. Pretty informative, and some
good background on the workings of this transmission. That being said, after
watching him disassemble it, there’s not a lot different from the good old
PowerGlides and C4s from the days when I was in school when it comes to
automatic transmissions. If I had the time and space I would consider
rebuilding one of these myself. I’m not sure it would make good economic sense
compared to a rebuild from Sun Valley, but my point is more that it’s not
rocket science.

Re: [MBZ] No key no tittle crazy ex girlfriend stole everything and won’t give it back

2022-10-24 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Can you film it on a YouTube... should gather a million hits!
"Crazy mad woman tips over the edge while two guys play "Mad Ex girlfriend
roulette"
Only problem is, how do you do a followup video? Sort of a 1 and done,
don't you think...
Does the winner get the car and conjugal visits while she does life in
prison for murder? .. Maybe sell the movie rights?

Carmel IN is new money. I would also want to see the undercarriage, as they do

Otherwise, it looks pretty nice.
