I'd agree unecessary, in fact I haven't HAD to do that yet since I

I'm a bit confused by this - A 10 mm hex? I thought it was a 12 or 14. I did
try a 10, and it was too small (maybe could've made it turn, but would've
rounded it out).
I did purchase the 12, 14, and 17 socket-driven-hexes at AZone.

Sounds like monkeys have been in there. Ugh! Note: a 3/8 will be too
small and will round out the bolts. Whenever I come across a rounded
out starter bolt I hammer in a 12mm triple-square head and have had
good luck getting them to crack loose. Should this be the case, replace
the bolts.
First thing I would look for is to be sure it has the dual timing
chain in place and when was the last time they were changed out.
Now I know the 85 models had the dual setup from the factory but am
not sure that all 84 MY 380's had this important improvement.

Nothing wrong with the fuel delivery system except possibly really
nasty injectors -- if they don't make a nice mist when they fire, it's
not gonna start well.
I would suggest tesing the injectors and checking the valves -- tight
intakes in particular cause hard starts from low compression
WATCH THE TIMING CHAIN if it's not had the dual chain retrofit. The
single chain wears really fast, and a valve job is expensive.
Otherwise it's a nice M116 engined W126 -- a bit short on power, but
otherwise very nice.
You shouldn't have any real problems IF the engine has been maintained

Sounds like somebody's been in there before you and rounded it out.
