I forget which model car you are working on. On my 83 300D the aux
fan doesn't come on till the temp gets just slightly above normal.
Usually in city stop and go traffic and restarting after it was shut
off for a very short time. After the temp goes back down to around 95
deg it
Part of the rationale was that too many dealers was making
buying/selling a car too competitive and the customers were getting
prices that were too low.
I will leave the analysis of that reasoning to the reader.

Like most laws in the US, franchise laws are heavily influenced by
the wealthy and well connected, and in some states (particularly the
south) can gouge the franchise owner pretty badly.
That said, bankruptcy isn't fun for anyone, and dealers are pretty

That's close enough to an 83 so that your aux fan may be set the same
way. I know some others do come on as long as the AC is on but yours,
like mine may not be like that. First check that the fan even works
by using some jumper wires direct to the fan connector under the
hood. Mine didn't and
replacement compressors and such. Seems I have heard the rebuilt R4's
are not very good and only get a new one. Is this true?

We don't know the contents of the dealer agreement, therefore, what is
happening may be no different than any other time when they cancel a dealer.
I suspect there is a termination clause in the dealer agreement that allows the
supplier to terminate the dealership in a given period of time at

Well, the fact is the car companies do have these contracts with the
labor unions. Its crazy they would agree to some of those things but
they did, so they should have to live with them. UNTIL, they file
bankruptcy then they might have a way to get out from under the burden

I have heard the mcparts R4 compressors end up being mounted upside
down in an MB. I have never replaced one, yet. For a keeper, you
are best off to buy one from MB sources. Rusty is one. there are
others, and of course there are the stealerships. You don't want a
rebuilt on a keeper, or
you must also install a filter in the suction line to the compressor
-- the old one shed an amazing amount of crud while it was dying, and
it's impossible to remove all this unless you install a new, unused
hose set and a new unused evaporator and condenser. Cheap @ $35 or so.

the compressor, but not sure where to get a filter or how to install it.
What do you do, just get the right size, cut the line, install the
filter and use clamps or what? Can said filter be used instead of
flushing, or
