They will work with any model including R107 up to 123 and 116.

Randy, if you have US type replaceable 7 bulbs, these should work for you.

I have Hella non sealed beams that come with H-4 bulbs. The 5 3/4
high and hi-low are $69.00 each. The 7 are $76.00. These are made
in GERMANY.

Original US spec lamps are sealed beam. The rest of the world got
halogen bulbs in reflectors with a fog lamp in the bottom and the
turn signal on top.

If you have replaceable bulbs in a reflector, you probably have
euro spec headlights (very desirable). However, you may have the
wrong bulb, or the reflectors may be in very poor shape.

[MBZ] Cars for Sale

2009-12-22 Thread Eric Schusterman
Greeting's All:

I'm trying to find a good home for TWO 123 chassis vehicles.
I can provide all the info but was curious if I can post anything on your
website...I didn't see a classified section.
The quick story on these rust free California cars is as follows:

1983 300TD Blue with Blue interior. 310K miles. Car is in good condition
and would be a decent daily driver. Price is approx.$3200.00

1985 300D Burgundy with Beige MB Tex. 135Kmiles. this car is a keeper.
Straight and all doors close tight. Dash is good except for 2 tiny cracks
beginning at the usual speaker locations. $5000.00

one person owns both vehicles and they are at my mechanic's shop here in
Burbank, CA. The mechanic will stand behind the vehicles and provide full
disclosure of any necessary mechanicals coming 'down the pike'.
My involvement is only as a person who has some time and loves these cars
and desires that they go to a good home(s).
Let me know if you can help me find homes for these cars.
All the best,
Eric

Re: [MBZ] Battery drain - 87 300D

2009-12-22 Thread WILTON
The flashing test lamp may have been a false alarm of my own making. I just
went out to the car, fully closed hood, trunk, doors, etc., and cycled the
driver and front passenger locks with the key and tried the test lamp twice.
It doesn't flash now. Conclusion: even with fuse 12 (alarm system)
removed, something in the alarm system evidently was causing the flashing
test lamp. I had discounted that originally because fuse 12 is removed -
alarm disabled. I had left hood ajar last couple of days, and the alarm
evidently was trying to alarm me, anyway.

'Still have steady, bright test lamp with fuse C, though.

Yes, the test lamp flashes like a hazard light or turn signal. The alarm
was my first thought, too, but fuse 12 (the alarm system) has been removed
(system disabled) since before I got the car 5+ years ago. I've never had
fuse 12 installed. Could something in the alarm system be doing this with
the system disabled in such a manner?

The test lamp does not illuminate at all (no steady light/no flashing)
with fuse 9 (hazard, courtesy lamps, etc.) removed.

And again, test lamp is steady bright with fuse C installed. Test lamp is
significantly dimmer but flashing with fuse C removed and fuse 9
installed.

You're saying that the test lamp flashes _like_ a
hazard light? It's probably the car alarm, which is
trying to light the headlights and honk its auxiliary
horn through your test lamp.

Re: [MBZ] Battery drain - 87 300D

2009-12-22 Thread Jim Cathey

With most of the newer type cars, you can't just
connect the test light in series with the battery.
You have to connect the battery in such a way that
after the system 'settles' you can disconnect it
in a way that the current then flows through the
test light, without any interruptions.

I do it by holding the battery clamp against the
post, with the test light (or ammeter) on the post
and on the clamp. Then I pull the clamp away from
the post, making sure the other two connections are
steady.

Things like the antenna want to auto-park when first
powered on, and if they can't get enough juice they
get weird. (CD transports too.) By feeding full
power at first they go through their reset cycles
and then go quiescent, if they're going to.

I took a look when I got home last night and was surprised by the answer. My

am assuming some previous owner has swapped some lamps from a Volvo onto this

Anyone out there with experience with old round Volvo lamps? Do I want to swap

existing fog lamps somewhat or put a set
of the smaller aftermarket lamps under the front bumper I guess. Not sure I

That is, that the difference between
high and low beams is too much and I do not have sufficient light on
 low beams for highway travel.

A set of auxiliary driving lamps would serve you well.
Adjust the lows as you want them, and accept that the highs
are a bit too high. Point the auxiliary lamps in the correct
direction.

I actually leave the aux highs on the Frankenheap a bit wonky,
as that serves the main deer-finding purpose quite a bit better
than a long straight laser out the front would.

Microsoft typically releases updates on (I think) the first tuesday of every
month. For very critical security problems they have been known to make an
exception, but it's rare. Depending on whether your computer is set to
auto-update silently or only with your permission this can be almost
imperceptable to quite annoying.

I'm not sure whether Apple has a formal schedule like that; from experience it
seems more like they release updates as needed.

Back a few years ago, it was not unusual that an automatic update
broke things. I recall one particularly nasty one that killed 2000
Server dead. Microsoft pulled it, but not until after 1000's of
servers had to be loaded.

The last few years have been trouble free with updates (as much as
Windows can be), but I still don't automatically apply any updates.
Windows-7 now automatically updates everything including non-microsoft
software and hardware (if the manufacturer pays microsoft for the
service I suspect). Earlier this week the firmware in my ATI Digital
Cable Tuner got one and dropped the show it was recording - nice
feature :-(

You can't get them all at once because Microsoft never changes an

updates they think are important at a given point in time. Oh, and
those never get changed once they are released either - which causes
the same vicious circle to start all over again...

Re: [MBZ] Battery drain - 87 300D

2009-12-22 Thread WILTON
Antenna is unplugged/disconnected; bulbs have been removed from trunk, rear
roof and driver door lights; 'still have bright, steady test lamp with fuse
C installed. 'Quit messing with it when I got cold and tired. 'Try some
more (other door lights, central and rear door locking systems, seat adjust
memory,. etc., tomorrow. Where are plugs for disconnecting the locking
systems and seat adjust memory? Does this 124 have a locking system pump in
the trunk like that in my 126? Meanwhile, I'll see what I can find on the
CD, of course.

The flashing test lamp may have been a false alarm of my own making. I
just went out to the car, fully closed hood, trunk, doors, etc., and
cycled the driver and front passenger locks with the key and tried the
test lamp twice. It doesn't flash now. Conclusion: even with fuse 12
(alarm system) removed, something in the alarm system evidently was
causing the flashing test lamp. I had discounted that originally because
fuse 12 is removed - alarm disabled. I had left hood ajar last couple of
days, and the alarm evidently was trying to alarm me, anyway.

'Still have steady, bright test lamp with fuse C, though.

Yes, the test lamp flashes like a hazard light or turn signal. The
alarm was my first thought, too, but fuse 12 (the alarm system) has been
removed (system disabled) since before I got the car 5+ years ago. I've
never had fuse 12 installed. Could something in the alarm system be
doing this with the system disabled in such a manner?

The test lamp does not illuminate at all (no steady light/no flashing)
with fuse 9 (hazard, courtesy lamps, etc.) removed.

And again, test lamp is steady bright with fuse C installed. Test lamp
is significantly dimmer but flashing with fuse C removed and fuse 9
installed.

You're saying that the test lamp flashes _like_ a
hazard light? It's probably the car alarm, which is
trying to light the headlights and honk its auxiliary
horn through your test lamp.

The test lamp does not illuminate at all (no steady light/no flashing)

And again, test lamp is steady bright with fuse C installed. Test lamp

Replace the relay for the interior lamp delay, that's what's flashing
(and back feeding into the hazard relay). They go bad, draw an amp or
two.

Also check the wiring for the trunk lamp -- if the wire slips out of the
clip, or the little plastic shield falls out, the wire will rub on the
clamp and start shorting to ground. Fix before you fry the wiring
harness, it's a royal pain to repair.

And it could be the antenna. There is a little door in the trunk liner
that will allow you to reach the plug.

Re: [MBZ] Holiday project, will Santa's reindeer megasquirt on the roof?

2009-12-22 Thread Hendrik Fay
My understanding of the megasquirt system is that it does use multi
point injection, the trick being to find injectors to fit into the motor.

There are a couple of fellas on the ozBenz list fiddling with megasquirt.
From my point of view I would look at upgrading a CIS (K-jetronic)
system but not a CIS/E (KE- jetronic) system because the KE already uses
a O2 sensor to adjust the mixture on the go while the K system needs to
be tuned with an analyzer every service.
People have reported fuel economy/performance improvements but it has to
be considered that the original fuel system may well have been out of
tune and thus putting in a megasquirt has not really done anything
except brought the fuel system back up to factory specs.

Hendrik
who needs to spend time on the suspension of the TE instead of fiddling
with the fuel system

Peter Frederick wrote:
No, it won't. There is little or no benefit to pulsed injection
unless it's into the cylinder, as Bosch discovered in the 70's. Hence
the CIS -- mechanical, hence reliable, and accurate. Too accurate, in
fact -- there is no sudden throttle opening enrichment.

Benz stopped using it mostly because the US EPA insisted that each
cylinder firing event be completely controlled, even though there is
no way to tell -- even if you had an O2 sensor at each exhaust valve,
they do not respond fast enough to tell if a cylinder has fired or
not. The purpose is to shut off fuel to a non-functioning cylinder,
but no one does this. Stupid.

Anyway, a MegaSquirt on a Benz designed for point injection will
suffer from the same problems as a carb (since it's exactly the same
thing -- spray gasoline into the air flow remote from the cylinders):
the manifolds have both a number of turns and turbulent, not laminar,
flow. The gasoline gets thrown out of suspension as the air goes down
into the bottom chamber, swirls around, then goes up and over and down
into the intake valve. Works wonderfully for point injection, since
all cylinders get the same air flow on average, but works like crap
with a carb -- almost impossible to start, for one thing, since it
takes a LONG time to suck enough fuel mist through the manifold to get
it to light. Pump the accelerator pump and you end up with a puddle
fo fuel on the bottom of the lower manifold half, nowhere near the
cylinders. Terrible mixture control, and serious drivability
problems. I've seen a conversion to a Holley 4-barrel -- worthless.
Car was towed into the shop for refit to a normal CIS.

why do the actuators have elec. to them? Entry warning?

The switches on the doors/trunk are for the alarm system.
The wires to the actuators are for the 'voting' circuit
in the central locking, which is what trips the pump to
run a cycle.

Anyway, unplug the pump (under rear seat) and it's all dead.

I could try refocusing the existing fog lamps somewhat or put a set
of the smaller aftermarket lamps under the front bumper I guess. Not
sure I like the look of that however.

Does your car have the on-the-bumper fogs like 114's got?
That's a natural look for the car, if you can get some
style-appropriate driving lights. The heap has drivers
on top, and yellow fogs hanging below. Looks a bit 'busy',
but works pretty well. The lights are crap, though, but
sufficiently functional.
