Here's the way I cleaned the fuel tank in my '83 300D:
1. I siphoned fuel out of tank using hand pump siphon from Walmart. The
hand pump is very handy for getting the flow started.
2. Removed First Aid kit tray from behind back seat and removed fuel gauge
sender using 1 7/8 socket from Sears

You will need an adapter to push the old one out, otherwise the HF kit works
fine. Make sure you have a 7mm (yes, 7mm) allen key to hold the strut rod
while unscrewing the nut. This is NOT in the normal assortments, although my

Quick fix is a tiny bit of locktite on the shaft at the last gear on the right
side (the one with no number wheel). Proper fix it to send it to the
speedometer repair place and get a NEW gear installed, speedo calibrated, and a
new set of drive gears for the trip odometer installed.

Skip the water, just apply straight dishwashing liquid, it' much slimier. You
can also get real sneaky and buy a tube of silicone grease, the best way. The
rubber sticks to the steel, best to scrape the old stuff off if you can.
To pull them in, cut a short bit of heavy wall PVC pipe larger

Do not use heat, you run the risk of changing the shape or temper of
the control arm, and neither distortion nor cracks around the ball
joint are desirable. The HF tool will provide adequate pressure,
although some vigorous tapping on the control arm to start it out is
sometimes necessary.

I have never seen a 123 with this condition. on the SDL, the right
track was clearly off one tooth. On this 124, I can't see anything
wrong. When I tip the seat up so the tracks are perpendicular to the
ground, the left side is about 1/2 further from the ground to the
front mounting hole,

I find that often the seatbacks get taken apart and misaligned,
and that twist gives it an odd lean. _Every_ adjustment needs
to be in sync

I believe Rusty sells them for 190 for the Lemfoerder, to buy the bushes
and ball joint would cost about 90.
Obviously things are more expensive over here and the bushes are
reasonably easy to DIY.

I think he was talking of the plastic disks that go between the
wheel and the hub to keep the dust on the brake side. They do
work but I don't like them because of the possibility of heat
build up in the brakes during city driving. The disks tend to
reduce the air flow around the brakes. The

definitely no brake shields if you are in conditions where brakes are

designed to keep the brakes cool. Blocking the airflow is not a good
