[MBZ] ChowdahQ 2010: Huge success!
Congratulations to Dwight/ Karen and Curt /Angie (and Buster) nad Fred for their efforts which enabled The ChowdahQ 2010 to be a great success! The hosts were charming and gracious, the food was great, and the atmosphere was a lot of fun. Not a discouraging word was heard. Great chowdah, great burgers, great salad. Personally, the moose sausage was a first for me. You heard that right: moose sausage!! Great stuff! :) Even the bribes to get a prize were reasonably priced! Can't beat that! ;) Kudos also to Burt and Lorraine (God, that is a beautiful car you have!) for their work on the Judging, etc. Whoever was in charge of the weather, btw, gets a salary raise for next year. Outstanding job by all! Speaking for myself, I had a great time and I look forward to next year. There is a great sub (USS Blueback) at the Portland, OR science museum. The last diesel/electric sub to be in the fleet. One of my customers in the area served on it, and I talked him into going on the tour with me one evening. He ended up taking over for the docent and made the tour really awesome. Re: [MBZ] head gasket set
There is no oil supply line gasket, it's a standard flare fitting in the block. I don't remember a turbo line gasket, nor the o-ring seals for the return line. You should have the intake gasket set though -- intake to head and crossover pipe, but not all sets have them. You won't get the large o-ring for the turbo outlet, it's not supposed to have to be replaced that often. I got a set of pre-chamber seals too. Not that many gaskets for a 603 head, after all. You do not need to remove the turbo from the exhaust, so you won't get those bits. Finally found lower radiator hose leaking this morning; 'been suspecting it before and looked at it many times during last several days; 'never could catch it dripping or wet, etc. This morning I removed the cowling pan under the engine and took the car for a drive; pulled back in the yard and immediately crawled under the car to look for leaks; 'could find none. I got back in the car and revved it to 2500 RPM and held it there maybe five minutes; shut it down and immediately went under the car again; 'found lower hose (the one between bottom of radiator and thermostat and a branch that goes to expansion tank) gushing where branch is attached. Removed and replaced the hose and thermostat today (parts rcvd from Rusty yesterday). 'Am now ready for some tips on filling and burping the cooling system (just water for coupla days). Any tips? Yep, great military museum, been there more than a few times. Highly recommended, great for kids and adults. They do sleep-overs for Boy Scout/Girl Scout units, have special events / fund raisers (just had a big VA gathering, USO has done stuff, some uber-rich even rent it out for private events). If you go again, don't miss the movie, about 30 minutes of WW II stuff telling the "fighting Lady's" story. -Max -Original Message- From: mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com [mailto:mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com] On Behalf Of Rich Thomas Sent: Saturday, September 11, 2010 11:38 AM To: Mercedes Discussion List Subject: Re: [MBZ] OT - WW-II carrier re-enactment in 1995 Yorktown. [MBZ] Time for it to Go
I need to get my poor, gestorben '77 300D out of my side yard. It's languishing there, covered, mocking me. As you may recall, the engine seized about a month before Curt's did. I'd like to have someone who can use its 99% rust free carcass to come and take it. I currently have all my W123 stuff in the back seat too. I'd like to get $200in return mostly for the relatively new Michelins that are on it. If anyone is interested, I can send more details. I really don't want to send it to the bone yard...yet. Re: [MBZ] OT - WW-II carrier re-enactment in 1995
Yorktown. They have lots of aircraft on display, a new one of some sort (I forget) just arrived the last few weeks. I have not done the tour, but see it often driving over the big bridge. They hauled off the destroyer Laffey to have the hull fixed up, got that done, now can't pay the bill or to get its berth fixed up, it is sitting at some other dock now running up bills. There is a submarine there too, the Claghorn? or something like that. --R On 9/11/10 9:43 AM, WILTON wrote: 20+ years ago in Charleston, SC, SWMBO and I were beginning a visit or tour of the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise(?)
