Re: [MBZ] OT a little light reading on injection
Good questions... I know one of the Nitske books mentions a dreary war-time charcoal burning 170, so they did get cars running on it for practical purposes at some point. Jaime Charcoal is very different than coal dust. During WWII, many gassers were converted to woodgas. Most of the farm tractors ran on woodgas. This is gasification of wood. It is done on a burner attached to the vehicle. The gas is produced by burning the wood in a oxygen lean environment. There is a nice example in the Deutschesmuseum in Munich. Mountains of coal dust have been buried (or not) in the USA. A few years ago I saw a number of how much fuel that represented. It is a staggering amount of Billions of BTUs. THe problem is that coal dust oxidizes when exposed to air, and oxidation is just a slow process with results similar to burning. The oxidation makes the stored coal dust much less valuable as fuel, thus impractical. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

The G-MAX and the Ecsta 4x were tied for 3rd place when I bought tires back in October, looks like the 4x has slipped several places in the survey since the weather got cold. I usually try to buy tires that rank green (6.6 out of 10) across the board in Tire Rack owner surveys, I'm surprised that the Michelin Sport Pilot's snow ratings have slipped into the yellow, I thought they were all green last fall. I agree with Mr Bruckmann on this. I drove my NA 200D from sealevel to 4000 ft frequently with little problem. Every time I drove a NA Diesel MB into higher altitudes, the performance was bad and so was the smoke. even at 7000 ft, the NA (non ADA) diesels were bad. If I could not find or justify a turboDiesel MB, I'd go for a VW turbodiesel. I crossed the CD with my turboDiesel Quantum and it performed pretty well . Nope. Its a 24v 1/2 drive impact wrench up to 250 lb/ft. You can vary the torque by watching how much it spins and releasing the trigger. Most pneumatic guns (maybe just better pneumatic guns?) have a torque limiting control, usually on the back. For my uses this little electric gun is plenty, it'll take off lug nuts that were properly torqued but not those that are gorilla torqued which is why I have tires put on rims and put the rims on myself. -Curt Date: Sun, 06 Jan 2013 13:58:41 -0600 From: Benz Hogs benz-n-h...@gulseth.net To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Subject: Re: [MBZ] Wooo boy! Theres lots of engineering that goes on on the landfill that they used to farm out to different companies. [MBZ] OT a little light reading on injection
In Hendrik's submission (Mercedes Digest, Vol 86, Issue 33, Message: 2), he attached a link to a report by Frank DeLuca entitled History of Fuel Injection. In the article he mentioned that Rudolph Diesel wanted to use leftover piles of coal dust as fuel. I asked about the origin and eventual disposition of this material. Craig responded with the questions Which countryside? When? The first sentence in the report states When Rudolph Diesel contracted with Augsburg and Krupp of Germany in 1893 to develop a more efficient internal combustion engine, one of his objectives was to use a s fuel the mountainous piles of powdered coal which had been accumulating throughout the countryside. I presume this means in pre-WWI Germany. Now. I just created something else I'm curious about. As I typed this out, I copied and pasted, which caused my page to have several sizes of print. Re: [MBZ] Opinions: 1999 Mercedes Benz E320 4matic Wagon
I wouldn't be so quick to ditch the self leveling Xenon's. New OE is around $800-$900?, but it should be possible to pick up a used assembly for less then half that. The WIS has instructions for adding some factory optional equipment to various models from the mid 80's on. ESP Xenons are a no-go on the W210 due to the wiring electronics involved, but heated seats, headlight washers ortho muti-contour seats are possible to add to a car without. I thought that was pretty cool! On 1/6/2013 7:55 PM, Mitch Haley wrote: My blue 1999 has the seat heaters, wish it had the rest... Goodwill in Johnson County. Lots of executive castoffs. I just bought a pair of Allen Edmonds from Savers for $6. The uppers are in very good condition. One sole has a tiny hole. I also own Johnston Murphy purchased in the early 90's, maybe '94/'95. Re: [MBZ] OT shoes and repair
No worse than feet getting soaked running through a creek (think Hell Race) or racing through mud/water in a Cyclocross race. I've soaked more than one pair of running/cycling shoes in vinegar or sprayed the interior with alcohol/tea tree oil to combat bacteria. Re: [MBZ] Mercedes Digest, Vol 86, Issue 17
That was probably a later model then ours. I think it was something like late 50's early 60's. Tan two door. I think I still have a couple of the status lights from the dash around somewhere. I remember getting to drive it a couple of times under supervision. I think I would have liked it better if it had a floor shifter. As I recall it (and we all know how those childhood memories can be distorted as time goes on) was really, really long. The car was a light blue and had rubber floor mats. That's about all I remember about it. Mom loved driving a stick shift, and thrashed the heck out of that car. My Dad was an exec for a division of GM at the time, and the execs were always getting cars from GM's failed efforts at importing. For example, the car that preceded the Opel Kadette was a Vauxhall wagon Dan ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
