[MBZ] New story at Bring a Trailer - '82 300TD w/V8
V8-Swapped 1982 Mercedes Station Wagon This 1982 Mercedes Benz 300TD W123 wagon is powered by a carbureted 383 Chevy crate V8. We’d swap in steel wheels with painted taxi-cab hubcaps, delete the tint, and add the factory steering wheel to make it pretty much perfect for grudge night. Find it here on eBay in Orlando, Florida for $18,900. Special thanks to BaT reader Chris P. for this submission! Continue reading at Bring a Trailer » This message was intended for jonag...@gwi.net. Re: [MBZ] OT: chain saws
Stihl seems to have a rabid following. I consider it a Ford vs Chevy debate, I bought the Husky because theres a dealer (I bought from a saw shop) near my house and the Stihl guy is miles and miles away. Stihl seems to run a lot more money for the same size/power saw too. I'm very anti-Poulin for the new ones, seems like they only make really cheap crap. We've got an old (probably 30 years) Echo at camp. Its a good saw but overkill for what we need and HEAVY. I can run my Husky for a lot longer because its lighter and doesn't vibrate as much. A helmet with ear and eye protection is a vital component too as are chaps if for not other reason than they protect you when you bull through the brush. -Curt Date: Sun, 12 May 2013 17:31:36 -0500 From: Dieselhead 126die...@gmail.com To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Subject: Re: [MBZ] OT: chain saws Message-ID: a0624083ecdb5c86bad2b@[192.168.1.51] Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii ; format=flowed Just yesterday I noticed that Tractor Supply switched from Husqvarna to Jonsered. Moose is excellent. My cousin in Canada has a chain saw (with vegetable oil in the oiler) dedicated to moose butchering. Comment to tie this thread in with the chain saw thread). When hunting moose, always have a practical plan for getting the moose from where it is dropped to where it will be butchered and consumed. As with deer, I prefer to hit them with a Remington rather than a Benz. I've had some close calls (with a Volvo), but never actually hit any with a vehicle. Re: [MBZ] OT: chain saws
Once again, I am coming in late. I have a Husquvarna (sp??) that I quite like. Got it at Lowe's in the USA for something over $200 a couple of years back. Not the Rancher but the next one down. Lighter, quieter and more powerful than what I was used to and probably safer too. We had a pair of old Homelite XL's that would not die. A blue one that was probably bought around 1970 and then a red one that was likely purchased around 1980. Still have the red one and sold the blue one to a friend of my younger son. Red one could use a new chain but apart from that, no real issues. However, I am not sure about parts availability. Randy On 10/05/2013 8:25 PM, Allan Streib wrote: I have a fairly wooded lot and have decided I need to get a chain saw to keep it maintained. I checked local CL and surprisingly didn't find much. It's probably something I will only use a few times a year. Maybe should just rent one as needed? There was a recent thread I saw somewhere, with photos, that showed a SBC V8 being transplanted into an MB. What a butcher job. They had to cut away way too much for my liking. [MBZ] best chain saw
thanks, Folks, THe best chainsaw that i ever had was an old Poulan pulpwooder's saw, i would call it. It was huge and had a big open bow for a bar. It was only for cutting up logs. You'd put the end of the bow up against the log and there was a casting clamped to bottom of the bow that you put under the log. You would then lift the motor end up and the bow would go deeper and deeper into the log. You could just cut logs on the ground. I think they are supposed to be incredibly dangerous. Are they even still made. I had mine back in the late 70's to mid 80's when i heated with wood. It was a bear to start or even to pick up, to drop while holding the starter cord to start it. I could do it fine from age 25 to 35, but i don't know about now, at nearly 59. Once running it was great and never would quit. I got the machine from my local chainsaw repair guy who would always sell me interesting saws that needed a little work. I think, that sadly, it was stolen at some point. Now all i have are a couple of barely used mass marketed Poulans maybe a 2150 and a 2300 with bars that are probably too long. They suck. I bought them for probably $5 or $10 each at yard sales. Once running, they are ok, but since much of my living is made cleaning carbs on motor scooters, i have little interest in cleaning chainsaw carbs. I usually start them with starting fluid for the little bit of cutting that i have to do, normally. Now i have a big tree that i had a crazy guy take down and need to cut up the limbs on the ground. xx rick Rick Hawkins www.javaphoto.com www.javacycles.com LETTERPRESSES FOR SALE www.ricktheprinter.com www.letterpressmachinery.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
