Re: [MBZ] We can't slow down now.
As Dan wrote, the petition is to get the proposal on the ballot, but there are still a couple of possible roadblocks in getting it passed. The governor and other pro-power company interests tried to pack the Supreme Court with their people, and I don't remember if they were successful or not. The other is the massive amount of advertising money that will be spent trying to defeat it if it does get on the ballot. One thing in the proposals favor is the fact that wealthy Florida industrialists and merchants who have large electric bills will hopefully spend their money to fight the power companies and the legislature in order to get it passed. One of the first things I realized about Floridas state government some 70 years ago was that it was basically corrupt. With the exception of two or three governors since then, it's more corrupt nowadays if that's possible. I pay little attention to Florida politics unless something like this comes up. It's too frustrating. Re: [MBZ] We can't slow down now.
The email does a bad job of explaining things… There was a petition to get an amendment to the state constitution putting solar energy into a legal framework that couldn’t be legislated out of existence, such as the energy companies have been doing for years. Once they meet their number of signatures, it goes to the State Supreme Court for review, then on to inclusion in the next general election to be presented as an amendment to the state constitution. They’re done gathering signatures for the petition, now it’s activist time to get the word out so people will vote for it. The utility companies will be gearing up for a fight in the media if it gets on the ballot next year. Re: [MBZ] Save the Date, ChowdahQ Eight
Bob, Narragansett Beach is probably the nicest beach and is about 10-15 miles south of the Q. There are reasonable motels like the Anchor Inn-no frills or a 1901 3 star Victorian called Ocean House right across the street from the beach and seawall. . it's after Labor day so there may be an off season rate. Of course Newport is nice but beaches are a little north of Newport like Easton's beach where Newport Beach Hotel is and only about a mile or so from the city of Newport. That is near a place where we go for wicked good Sunday brunch-The Atlantic beach Club. Only caveat is that this date is in hurricane season-we have been lucky so far-well the first one got rained out I guess.
