Ignoring the room for an engine, and if what I think is a steering
wheel actually is, and what looks like a seat back truly is, it
cannot be a drivable car.  The front suspension and inner fender
would intrude far enough to interfere with the steering wheel.
The driver and the front wheel can't occupy the same space.

The fact that I can't find any reference to it implies photophopping, but Randy 
does have a point that it's at least physically possible. What I thought was 
the driver's seatback (above the rear of the front fender opening) appears to 
actually be a dashboard.

I managed to find this reference to a red 600 pickup, but still haven't 
found details on the black cab forward design:

The Benzomino/El Benzo is a private project from famed W100 restorer Karl 
Middelhauve. He’s one of the greatest authorities on the Mercedes 600, and 
perhaps one of the few outside Mercedes themselves who can restore a 600 from 
the ground up. He has several cars for sale, and given the right price, I think 
he can part with any of his cars. He invented a completely new top and a new 
computerized injection system for the M100-engine, worthy of perhaps another 
150hp or so. Several of his cars are supercharged. And that’s from the place 
Jay Leno bought his brown supercharged 600.

However, Middelhauve is a personal friend of the Mercedes-designer Paul Bracq, 
and he had Bracq design those pickups for him as a personal favour. It’s just 
one of those things you can do when you have a couple of 600-shells scrapped 
for parts that’s just laying around the backyard. And what’s so fun is that he 
commissioned those designs from the original 600 designer, though they are made 
now in this century. It’s just one of those things…

I ended up at the yard this morning to bid on a parts car, so I took a look at 
the Eldorado convertible. Definitely a project car, but rust free. No back 
window, 3" of water in a tarp that fell in through the hole. 
It just sold for $3500 plus fees. Was $1850 when the auction opened.

Rarely watch TV, as I consider it a vast wasteland of dreck.  If I have time 
that is idle, I usually read a book.

Speaking of reading, there was a really good story that was linked to from that 
aviation web site about crashes. It's a bit long, but I found it pretty 
engaging. The Unser brothers were even involved in the rescue:
