Re: [MBZ] gmail malfinction on 2011 macbook pro with el crap

2019-10-09 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
The DNS problem,  if that is what the problem is, is on spyoogle's
servers, as she is only using a web interface to their spyware.

I was just saying then when she sent email it says "loading" like
spyoogle does not have the proper settings for their SMTP server.  Like
the client can't find the SMTP server.

fmiser via Mercedes wrote on 10/9/19 10:33 AM:

SWMBOs 2011 i5 MBP is running el crap (10.11).   When she opens
an email in gmail web client on safari, the reply button is
greyed out.  If she composes a new email in the gmail web app,
when she tries to send it the  gmail web app just spins and says
"loading."  It never does send the mail.

To me the send problem seems like a DNS problem.  There is no
settings for dns in the web client that I can find, and since it
is spyoogle's web app, they set all the dns settings.

Domain name resolution is not the job of the browser, or any other
client software. It is part of the system "network stack". If
using a name in the URL bar works, then it is finding a DNS - but
it's possible that a particular server won't resolve a particular
name. Usually the DNS is handed out by DHCP as part of getting an
IP address - but often it can be set manually. Maybe change the
DNS (somewhere in network settings) to 8.8.8.8, which is Google's
domain name server. Or OpenDNS, which is 208.67.222.222

One solution might be to put a newer OS on the computer, but I
am reluctant to do that.  (new OS generally means poorer
performance as the OS is bloated more with each release.)

What about a different browser? Safari isn't the only choice.
Chrome, Chromium, Oprah, Firefox...

Here are my questions:

I have no answers to any of these

while ago I hooked up the computer and after a bit of frustration got
it to talk to all the nannies and give a report on all the modules and
codes and faults and such (there were A LOT!).  Cleared them, there
were still some that seem to be hard faults with some components or

runs well though it seems to have some howling and rumbling coming
from the back end, might be tires or something, I'll have to check.
It was sitting for awhile so maybe the tires have some flats spots or
something.  Everything underneath looked good and clean though, but I
will check again.

So $200 for conductor plate, new connector, and filter and fluid and
various bits and the car is now ready to roll!  Will hit the DMV
tomorrow or Friday and get plates then do some shakedown.  But it
seems like a really nice car, clean and looks good.  I need a right
driving light, for some reason it looks like it broke off and is
missing. Nothing else it seems.

And I got the fancy computer working!  Turns out it had the 38 pin
connector up under the fuse panel cover, so maybe using that instead
of the OBD port was the key.  I'll have to look on the ML and see and
then get it hooked to that if it has one, maybe I can get it sorted
easily without having to mess with it much.

maybe the tires have some flats spots or something. Everything
underneath looked good and clean though, but I will check again.

So $200 for conductor plate, new connector, and filter and fluid and
various bits and the car is now ready to roll! Will hit the DMV
tomorrow or Friday and get plates then do some shakedown. But it seems
like a really nice car, clean and looks good. I need a right driving
light, for some reason it looks like it broke off and is missing.
Nothing else it seems.

And I got the fancy computer working! Turns out it had the 38 pin
connector up under the fuse panel cover, so maybe using that instead of
the OBD port was the key. I'll have to look on the ML and see and then
get it hooked to that if it has one, maybe I can get it sorted easily
without having to mess with it much.

So a good Benz day YAY ME

Just looked at LKQ online inventory for Rivers Ave, they've got about 7 of
your 210 cars and a wagon there, so lots of potential parts if you need
them. One is silver.

[MBZ] OT: Tracfone

2019-10-09 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
I know some of you guys use Tracfone, have you ever had to deal with their
support?
The other day I ordered a SIM, I've been unhappy with the quality of Republic's
service and figured I'd give them a try, we're due to go to camp soon so I
thought it'd be good to try it there.
Somewhere in the ordering process they changed my address from Cedar Terrace to
Cedar St. Unfortunately we actually have a Cedar St. and my package got
delivered there. The woman who lives there is super irritating and accepts my
stuff even though she sees my name, this one required signature that FedEx says
was me even though it isn't. Typically in a few days she'll send it back...
So I call Tracfone, its their website that changed my address after all, I was
even sure to check. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with them, everybody seemed
totally baffled. I was asked "Where did you buy this?" twice. I bought it on
their website, I had an order number. After 45 minutes I've been "escalated" and
in 24-48 hours I can call back and find out what they decided to do.
So yeah, I'm thinking they might be too stupid to get any of my money. Or maybe
I'm not stupid enough to give it to them.
Of course now I realize I could have gotten the SIM through Amazon, I'd have
gotten it already...

[MBZ] gmail malfinction on 2011 macbook pro with el crap

2019-10-09 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
SWMBOs 2011 i5 MBP is running el crap (10.11).   When she opens an email
in gmail web client on safari, the reply button is greyed out.  If she
composes a new email in the gmail web app, when she tries to send it
the  gmail web app just spins and says "loading."  It never does send
the mail.

To me the send problem seems like a DNS problem.  There is no settings
for dns in the web client that I can find, and since it is spyoogle's
web app, they set all the dns settings.

I have the same setup on  my MBP, other than it is i7 and I can use the
spyoogle gmail web app. (but I don't generally)  I use postbox email
client for various accounts.  I tried to get her to let  me set up
postbox on her computer, but she does not want me to do that.   I don't
think I can get her off gmail onto another email address.

One solution might be to put a newer OS on the computer, but I am
reluctant to do that.  (new OS generally means poorer performance as the
OS is bloated more with each release.)

Here are my questions:

is there any way to install a newer version of safari without changing
the OS.  It does not appear possible through the "app store"

Has anyone successfully installed 10.12 or higher on a 2011 or older
computer?  (preferably MBP)

If so, was there a performance hit?

What OS did you install?

Has anyone encountered something like this?  If so, what is the solution?

Thanks
