Re: [MBZ] Not Diesel
I got chewed out for filling a can in my trunk when it was raining and the concrete was wet and oily. So I held it in one hand while I worked the pump with the other hand. And 30 years ago I pulled out a kero can at the diesel pump and the guy told me the kero pump was in back. Never had anybody complain that I was using a yellow can at the kero pump, and I think I've put kero in a red can before. Finally bought a blue can this month so I can fetch kero properly. [MBZ] Inexpensive Diesel
I saw an ad locally for an '86 190D on Saturday. The photos looked good. The body looked to be intact and the interior looked more than decent. Asking price was $750. The catch was that it had 746,000 K on it. The ad said it ran and drove fine. Someone must have thought it worthwhile as the ad is now gone. Re: [MBZ] Harbor Freight and Lowes
I'm more impressed with Harbor Freight all the time. Bought a 1/2 inch torque wrench from them... less than $14 tested it for calibration and it was within 3% .. used it is for a year on wheel lugs and a few other projects... then it failed internally. Walked into the local Harbor Freight store with it... said .. "It failed"... they said... go get a new one... no charge... Thank you.. They are acting like the old Sears tool people on tool guarantee. Quality good enough for most jobs... My thousand dollar set of Snap On wrenches stay in the drawer. Yeah, the one time I made that mistake it was at a BP station. I looked it up and cutting the diesel with gas was recommended for cold climates. I have purchased one HF ratchet, a stubby 3/8” drive that was one of their “high end” or more expensive models. It lasted maybe six months, used possibly 10-12 times, none of which stressed it significantly, it was used to spin off fasteners in areas with limited space, like the top bolt on motor mounts, after they had been broken loose. The reverse lever has failed in that it doesn’t select the direction, you have to fiddle with it and maybe it will do the job, and the ratcheting action is sloppy as heck.
