Re: [MBZ] C. V. 19 in silly valley

People are dropping like flies in Seattle.

Postal worker in a sorting facility came up ill. Customs clearing house had to
shut down due to ill workers. Firefighters who responded to the care facility
are out of service now. Seems the virus was getting spread covertly in the
Soviet Socialist Republic of Seattle over the past two months. I got out just
in time… maybe.

Flight back to ANC from FAI did not have the hacking passengers that the early
morning flight to FAI did. Lady in the seat next to me did a full
decontamination wipe down of her seat area with some medicated cloth. No virus
up north yet, but I am pretty sure there will be some idiot out of SEA comes up
here to spread it around.

Re: [MBZ] W126 Brakes Bolt-Up to W123?

2020-03-03 Thread Clay via Mercedes
I collected a few sets of rears at PnP from w126 and w124 but only got one side
off a w123. All were the same massive PITA to remove the bolts. Needed a MUCH
bigger breaker bar. The rears I pulled were all ATE and the same no matter
which model. The SDL and SD wanted fresh rear brakes, so I rebuilt the units
myself. The SDL needed fresh lines and hoses all around. I installed the
lines and calipers my own self and had the shop do the ABS pump and bleed the
system for massive labor savings.

Just my $0.02 experience of compatibility. I think the W114/115, w116 and R107
also use the same rear calipers

[MBZ] Larry's 300D 2.5

2020-03-03 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
Got it aligned today.   Will pick it up in the morning, and it goes
immediately into service.   Running out to the alignment place, it did
not appear that the turbo was working, or at least it was lazy.  I will
blow out the line to the intake manifold.

What other things should I check?   OVP relay?

It is a 91, and think I heard that you can't block off the EGR on these
without causing a digital fit with some black box.  I forgot if there is
a way to check EGR because I always blocked it (easy) or took it off
(Best)  It has a nest of vacuum pods on top of the EGR, and I have not
investigated any of these yet.

[MBZ] 124 parasitic drain

2020-03-03 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
The Larry 124 has a parasitic drain on the battery.  I unhooked the
radio and antenna, no change.   I took out all the fuses, no change
(radio and antenna still disconnected)   Then I unhooked the bungler
alarm module under the floormat.  It still has a parasitic drain.   It
is not terribly bad, as it can sit for a week or so and still have
enought battery to start normally.

This one has me puzzled, as it is must something that draws right from a
"30" circuit.  A trunk light or such should be running on a fused circuit.

Prior related problems (i've had) have mostly been solved by unplugging
radio or antenna, and I had one bad trunk light switch.

Anyone have a bright idea?

I know nothing particular about your car. Sorry.

But in general, ou are on the right track. You know the motor is
okay.

I would source a wiring diagram and start looking for where washer
and wiper circuits differ.

Next I would look for relays. Maybe there is a different relay or
control power path for "normal" vs "washer".

There was a 1998 CL500, black, that was on CL here a couple days ago. Maybe
120k, looked to be very clean, wanted $5k. It probably sold for close to that
if it was nice. I was mildly tempted to check it out.

That could be a very good deal at closer to $2k. The issues often seem to be
with the distributor bits or moisture. Easily fixed. Otherwise the 500s are
solid so the problems shouldn’t be too difficult to deal with. Then you have

Price isn’t bad, but it’s a pre-facelift, meaning it risks wiring harness and
AC evaporator issues unless you know they’ve been dealt with.

Re: [MBZ] C. V. 19 in silly valley

2020-03-03 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
To date, I have seen reports by various medical experts that the virus can
live outside a host for 10 days, then another report said 20 days...
perhaps longer.

In any case, it does appear to have what could be classed as "extreme
durability" as virus go.
My bottom line on the information to date is, we do not know for certain
how long it will live, only that it is easily transmitted during the life
of the infected person, once infected.

A big factor would be time in transit. The most dangerous products would likely
be Chinese or Korean company products that advertise in the US retail market
