Your freedom to not wear a mask or to be traced ends where my freedom not
to be infected by you begins. Like your freedom of expression ends where my
nose begins. We are all in this together, whether we like it or not. I
don't like to wear a mask anymore than anyone else, but I've taken to
wearing the N95 in stores as so few others are wearing any kind of mask.
The supply of three year old N95's is getting low however -

We'll get the vaccine (whether it works or not) that produces the highest
profit for the powers that be, and will probably be forced to purchase it.
Profit based medicine will be the death of us yet.

And then the crisis will be over, regardless of the efficacy (or
longevity) of the vaccine.

Question for Karl: Are people really getting re-infected within 3 months?
Is it because the disease mutated or because the body didn't feel like
keeping the antibodies for future usage? I'm thinking mutation, because
the latter just doesn't compute.

Do reinfections tend to be less of a problem than the initial infection,
since the body has already dealt with a related infection before?

Mitch.

Cloth masks aren’t the same as surgical masks or N95 respirator masks, which
are used by medical workers at high risk for being exposed to the coronavirus.
Cloth masks may not prevent you from inhaling any particles that carry the
coronavirus. But that doesn’t mean it’s not worth wearing one.

Aaron Hamilton, MD, sets the record straight on some common misunderstandings
about masks.
Myth #1: Wearing a cloth mask is no use.

Wearing a homemade cloth face mask is an easy way you can help protect others
in your family and community.

The 2019 novel coronavirus is thought to mainly be spread through viral
droplets that come out of people’s nose or mouth when they cough, sneeze or
talk. Cloth masks act as a physical barrier to keep large droplets from spewing
out into the air, where someone else could breathe them in and become infected.

Studies have demonstrated that cloth masks reduce the number of microorganisms
that someone releases into the air. So the more people wear masks in an area,
the fewer potential viral droplets go into the space, and the less risk that
someone will be exposed to the virus.

https://health.clevelandclinic.org/5-myths-about-coronavirus-and-face-masks-debunked/

My guess would be that restaurant workers wearing cloth masks catch Covid-19
from customers.

There was a MSU Econ prof who filed an age discrimination suit when they
forcibly retired him at the age of 70. He settled out of court for an
agreement to retire at 72 or 73, and apparently an undisclosed sum of
money. Before the lawsuit, you'd see him on campus in a Hawaiian shirt,
riding an English 3 speed bicycle. (not a bad way to stay in shape at that
age, commute on a bicycle) When he came back, the Brit bike was replaced
by a 1972 Silver Shadow. I figured the taxpayers bought him that car
outright, fortunately a '72 was fully depreciated by then.

I noticed a Brit car I'd never heard of before, a 2003 Scorpion. The
intent was apparently a modernized Morgan, but I wonder about the
execution. It must be really fun to drive if they've racked up 3000 miles
in only 17 years.

There was early reporting on this out of Wuhan. I recall stories of
illegal/non-code sewage hookups or modifications in many apartments of
those who were sick.

If true, masks are useless. Studies showing that masks help prevent
spread may be conflating correlation with causation. Maybe people who
are diligent about wearing masks are also diligent in their personal
hygiene generally. Most of the mask studies I've seen are also in
health-care environments, which cooincidentally emphasize frequent
hand-washing and other hygiene practices.

We're seeing a spike in restaurant worker infections here, and they
all wear masks since the reopening started.

BTW, alcohol (hand sanitizer) doesn't emulsify lipids (coronavirus is lipid

Karl, I've read several news articles that indicate that the virus has mutated

Not to beat a dead horse, but this is why testing and tracing is so
important. If you don't know which citizens are "guilty", and who they
have been associating with, it is hard to protect the "innocent"
(uninfected) from disruptive containment policies. The only sensible
path forward is a containment strategy focused on hard quantitative
testing goals (e.g. increase testing until achieving below 5% positive
results), sensible measures like masking (Clay's doc is probably wrong
about them not working), and tracing as many contacts as possible and
isolating them for two weeks (over 15 minutes at close range continuous
without masking). Then everybody else can go about their business.
Otherwise, expect more chaos.
