Fair point, but I think you're talking more like about 12 for that car.

Funny, people do not consider 14-20 mpg poor mileage when talking about a
pickup or SUV that they drive like a car most of the time. It would fit
right in here. I just hope it has a large tank so I don't have to fill up

Re: [MBZ] 560 SEL

2021-04-14 Thread OK Don via Mercedes
I'm assuming that the 560 version of the M117 has the same intake layout as
the iron block 450 version. If so, it's likely that the myriad rubber hoses
under the top intake housing are all rock hard and leaking badly, which
yields an engine that will barely run, if it starts at all. Those bits were
hard to come by in the early 2000's, don't know about availability now.
Speaking of rubber bits, the vacuum pods that run almost everything inside
the body are likely toast by now as well. Most are rather difficult to
reach
Other than that, the W126 is a wonderful chassis!
My M117 ws in a 450SLC, and the W126 I had was a 300SDL -- not no direct
experience with the 560 SEL.

Acorns? Try hickory nuts! Sounds like a gun shot. Standing seam metal is
expensive but 5V much less so. I put 5V on several out buildings where the
Metal was screwed to horizontal wood nailers. The good thing about this is the
1 inch air gap reduced heat load. The bad thing is big limbs can (and did)
punch through.

I put metal roofs on my addition and main house when I built the addition.
Living in the woods, and hurricanes, I had one branch punch a hole in the
enclosed porch roof once. That was an absolute pain to deal with. The metal
deals effectively with that kind of stuff.

I like the sound of rain on the roof. It’s comforting. Acorns falling on it are
another thing...

Re: [MBZ] More insurance

2021-04-14 Thread OK Don via Mercedes
We like it. It's not any louder in the rain (it sits on the wood decking)
though is a little louder in hail. The roof on our main house is steep -
it's a bit harder to walk on now than it was with the composite shingles.
The other roof isn't that steep and is no problem to walk on.
The ins-co gave us a price for composite shingles, and we were able to get
metal within that budget. I don't remember the details ...

Re: [MBZ] More insurance

2021-04-14 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
I put metal roofs on my addition and main house when I built the addition.
Living in the woods, and hurricanes, I had one branch punch a hole in the
enclosed porch roof once. That was an absolute pain to deal with. The metal
deals effectively with that kind of stuff.

I like the sound of rain on the roof. It’s comforting. Acorns falling on it are
another thing...

You would think it would be cheaper to get a metal roof put on as I
would think it would be much less labor, but I guess the materials are
way more expensive.

That's very good. I looked at the CMP link you posted a bit ago. Which air

I have a 22 cal Gamo subsonic (residential area) that I REALLY like.

That's the joke. The people complaining about the government tracking them
through the microchips are usually clutching their phone while they do it.

Frankly if the government is tracking me it's probably a pretty boring job.
Although I did spend some time shooting my new airgun yesterday, was making
less than 1/2 inch groups at 10 meters. Not bad for iron sights...

No noticeable aftereffects, beyond a slight muscle soreness.

In my case it was a couple of life policies. No problem moving auto policies to
the best of my knowledge, but that’s been interstate moves. If you’re local
maybe they won’t let them move stuff around, I don’t know. All I know is that
when I pulled the plug on my agent I told SF (corporate) that I would cancel my
life policies before I would let my (old) agent manage them. I told them the
agent I wanted to handle them and they sent me some forms where I made an
attestation that I wanted them moved.

Re: [MBZ] OT Home and auto insurance

2021-04-14 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Yeah, it was ten years ago, so it’s moot now. I know the agent, who used to be
a family friend before they screwed us (which kind of doubled up the suckyness
of the whole situation) got their bag slapped by State Farm. The new guy I went
to just to service the life policy said that he had never seen a policy taken
away from the agent who wrote it. He seemed in awe of us because we pulled this
off. We told State Farm corporate that they either reassigned the policy to an
agent of our choice or we would cancel it.

you should get in touch with the state insurance regulator, for whatever
good that might do as the state and inscos all collude (like the
realtors, and a bunch of the legislators are also probably ins agents),
at least see what they say.

Re: [MBZ] OT Home and auto insurance

2021-04-14 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
I had State Farm for nearly three decades until my agent decided to screw me
over. Pretty sure I've detailed this here before, but long story short, when we
returned to Florida from Indiana in 2011 my auto insurance was nearly
$10k/year. I balked but started paying it. I also started shopping, only to
find that State Farm, in collusion with my agent, was charging me nearly double
what it would cost from any other carrier under the guise of “Florida rates
going up a LOT since you left.”

When I confronted them with competitor’s quotes they were all ready to “put a
pencil to paper and see what we can do.” I promptly told them that after 30
years of business I expected the best and lowest price they could offer right
out of the gate, and since they didn’t give me that, I was bailing. I did, to
Allstate, and I’ve never looked back.

I went so far as to wrest a life insurance policy away from my former agent and
have it assigned to another (new) agent I vetted in advance. This is highly
unusual and takes an edict from corporate, or so I was told. Interestingly, the
new agent, a nice guy who knows the story and understands my position, hit me
up for a shot at our auto policies a couple years ago. I told him “OK” and let
him have at it. He came back and said that my application was refused. He
didn’t know why, he says they submit stuff to the underwriters and then get a
response without an explanation.

Guess I pissed them off badly enough they don’t want my business any more. Fine
by me.
