Yes it does have the 009 distributor with electronic ignition, no points. Part
of the engine upgrades that were done in 2005.

Vacuum advance on the distributor? A really easy performance enhancement on any
of these engines is to go with a Bosch “009” distributor, which is 100%
centrifugal advance. Much better curve and you eliminate the vacuum stuff, too.

Well running much better now.

I went through the carb balancing routine again, and setting the idle mixture
screws. Got a good idle at 800rpm. Not quite sure what spec is.

I advanced the timing from 5 degrees BTDC at idle to 7.5. Idle speed went up,
so I adjusted it the idle back down and drove it. Better but still a "flat"
spot in the throttle. Advanced again to 10 degrees BTDC and it seems even
better. Still not perfect but it is drivable. At higher RPM it advances to a
little over 30 degrees; hard to tell exactly because my old timing light
doesn't seem to fire as accurately at that speed so the timing marks appear to
be jumping around some.

Not sure how far I can safely advance it. I have no temperature monitoring on
this engine. I don't mind running premium gas as it's just a "for fun" car
mostly, though it has about 4 gallons of 87 in the tank right now. Probably
will pick up some Seafoam and run it in the gas for a little while just for
good measure.

I guess it depends what kind of experience you want to get. The tourist
stuff is all there and well known. Going to the top of building is cool,

You can really absorb so much of the city by just walking around, sitting

Best time of year to see NYC is late January or early Feb, if you don't
mind the snow. I remember Janet and I were walking around one cold night
(back when she lived there before we were married) and we walked by
Rockefeller plaza. Some guy at the door was announcing there was no line
and no wait to goto the top of the building, so we went. Walked right into
the elevator and up to the top. Cool experience without any tourists.

Also, look for :
The *Outdoor Co-ed Topless Pulp Fiction Appreciation Society* was a group
of several dozen women and a few men that had, since August 17, 2011,[1]

organized regular gatherings around New York City
, meeting to read and discuss
books in public while topless.[2]

[3]

The primary objective of the group, besides enjoying the sun and book
reading, was to create awareness that New York law allows toplessness
in public, and to change social
attitudes to the exposure of women's breasts. The group's blog had reported
that there had been no harassment of the participants by the police
, and very
rarely by the public.

2021-08-10 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Thats a pretty okay hotel. It's an easy walk to 30 Rock and the Empire State
building. A longish walk to Times Square, pretty far to the 911 memorial.
There is a diner between there and the Empire State that I used to go to. Old
school, big menu, good food, small money. I can't find it on Google Maps, it's
been a long time since I've been there.
Another thing you might check out, try to be at B Photo (33rd & 9th) at maybe
4:30 on Friday. The place is run by Hasidic Jews, they close at sun down on
Friday which, at least in the 90s when I went there "Put down the items and
leave now." It was pretty funny to watch people who didn't know what was going
on.

Always do a search for Rock Auto Coupon, I don't remember when I last
placed an order without a 5% discount.

The shipping can be an issue so you have to do your homework and
compare with other suppliers.  I periodically get an email with a 5%
discount on any size order which helps with the shipping.
They encourage sharing the discount codes with friends and family.  If
anyone is interested I can forward the most recent email I received a
few days ago and expired on October 10, 2021.

I buy it in the gallon jug and refill the little cans. The gallon jug is eye
wateringly expensive but for the price of 5 cans you get the volume of 9

all the crud and lets you get back on the lake or river without the expensive

They even make a version to add to engine oil that dissolves sludge in the
crankcase. That works well also... Cheap? no. but it works.

Re: [MBZ] Well I’m booked to NYC

2021-08-10 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Probably $50. I took a cab once from Penn station to sheepshead bay in
Brooklyn, $90 and a long ride.
I would recommend you go a little farther uptown, 30th st or so which puts you
in walking distance of Times Square and Rockefeller Center to the north and the
Sept 11 memorial to the south. I used to stay in a Holiday Inn express around
there. It's a pretty good good hotel, don't gag too badly when you see
Manhattan prices, the most I ever paid was $700/night but that was a week the
UN was in town. If you do stay in that area go walk the Highline, I bet the
flowers are nice this time of year.

LGA is run down, or it was a couple years ago when I last went there. It's not
a bad airport though.
To anybody who hasn't been in NYC in 30 years, this is not the city it was.
It's cleaned up a lot and is pretty safe by big city standards. Stick to the
touristy areas and nobody will bother you.

Subject: [MBZ] Rock Auto

Here’s how you use Rock Auto:

Got a note on my RSS feed for some new stuff in the closeout section for the
SL500. Picked up a pair of Philips H3 driving light bulbs ($1.47/ea) and a
Bosch fuel filter ($4.36). Shipping was $9.00, bringing my total to about
$17.50.

Retail anywhere else on the filter is about $30 and the bulbs around
$5-$7/each, so I came out well ahead.

There was a bunch of other stuff but it was mostly dreck. You have to sift
through the lists and look for name brands, then check the prices.
