Mine don't. Not much to go wrong, but probably easy to fix too.
First thing I'd check is the switch, then the cord.

Re: [MBZ] OT How far can a Nissan Murano go with no coolant?

2022-03-25 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
I have a sister in law who is on their second Murano. Although I don’t know
what year their first one was, I do know they put several hundred thousand
miles on it without issues.

Don’t know a thing about them, other than the weird convertible variant they
came out with was one of the fugliest things I think I’ve ever seen.

Re: [MBZ] OT How far can a Nissan Murano go with no coolant?

2022-03-25 Thread mitch--- via Mercedes

Couple weeks ago I see a Challenger in the mirror trailing a cloud.
Not a vision obscuring cloud, but still one that I noticed while it was
a good bit behind me. Killed the fan and put the heater in recirc to
lessen the burning oil smell as it went by. Was surprised to find that
the smoke didn't seem to be coming from the exhaust outlets, and that it
smelled exactly like a cutoff wheel cutting steel, not like burning oil.

Couple miles later, I see...a Challenger parked on the shoulder.

A story from the 1980s:
Car on the ramp in front of me has a wildly wobbling driver's front
wheel.
Was going to pull up alongside her and try to communicate once we hit
the freeway, but I was going 65 in a 55 and she outran me. She didn't
make it a mile on the freeway.
Wheel went rolling down the median, and the brake disk threw sparks on
the concrete every time she touched the brakes. It seemed to stay just
above the road as long as she didn't brake. IIRC it was FWD, like a
Citation or something. No, I didn't stop.

Re: [MBZ] OT How far can a Nissan Murano go with no coolant?

2022-03-25 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
One of my high school English teachers told the story about how when she got
her first car nobody ever told her she needed to check the oil so she drove it
until it ran out of oil and the engine locked up. Her second car she checked
the oil religiously and added every time it needed but nobody ever told her she
needed to CHANGE the oil so that one locked up too.

I asked her "Why didn't you ever read the manual?" She didn't like that...

Re: [MBZ] Ceramic coating

2022-03-25 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
The comments on the product are very good too.  Looks like a good
polishing improves the performance of the stuff, probably using a power
buffer thing and some polishing stuff like this

https://www.chemicalguys.com/torq10fx-random-orbital-polisher-kit-one-step-scratch-and-swirl-remover-kit-8-items/BUF613.html

HF have some kits of these machines/pads for a reasonable price, the CG
polishing products seem to be pretty good for getting out swirls and
scratches before applying the wax.  There are probably lots of other
vendors too with stuff you can probably get at FLAPS or wherever.

It's getting to be that time of year!

Re: [MBZ] Ceramic coating

2022-03-25 Thread Randy Bennell via Mercedes

Sort of like with oil - "any wax is better than no wax"
And again, sort of like oil - it depends upon how often you want to
change it - meaning cheap wax doesn't last as long so you have to keep
applying it.
The wipe on liquid Turtle Wax gives a bit of shine but doesn't really
offer much protection for very long.

Search for it on the Island of Large Wimmen. A bottle that will last you easily
a couple of years (or more) is around $20. Easy to apply and remove, stands up
well in our climates.

no way you could actually put a ceramic coating on your car. Whatever.

I wax twice a year with Collinite Liquid Insulator #845 wax. Very good
stuff, holds up extremely well in our environment. Was originally designed
for waxing high voltage insulators on transmission lines.

That’s kinda my sense of it too. A good polish and wax every now and then
should be fine. I’ll take a look at that insulator wax

I've been weighing doing this to my original-paint W108 (Horizontblau) and
W115 (Kaledoniengrün) and found this chap, "Scott HD", very helpful in
testing (YouTube), and providing results for tests (Google sheet), of LOTS
of products. There are VAST differences between products, or even within
the same product when formulations change. For example:

The 28-way Chinese Products test:

I liken it to snake oil in the sense that you can probably achieve the same
thing waxing with good quality wax on a regular basis. I’m sure it has some
benefits, but I take exception to the term “ceramic coating” as I see no way
you could actually put a ceramic coating on your car. Whatever.

I wax twice a year with Collinite Liquid Insulator #845 wax. Very good stuff,
holds up extremely well in our environment. Was originally designed for waxing
high voltage insulators on transmission lines.

Good point.

I don't think that's the issue here, it will run wide open if I give it a
little choke to get it going. It'll idle with no choke but falls on its face in
the transition. I think it needs the low needle opened a little...

I nearly killed myself trying  to start a weed eater my brother gave me, would

the spark, etc.

Turned out to be a mud dauber nest in the exhaust, which on that weedeater is
exactly the side they like.  Poked that out and it ran like a champ….

Very very rare 300cd coupe, the legendary engine that is in amazing
shape, no smoke and starts every time, great condition. Started as a
project, I wanted to restore fully and re- paint. We now have a baby and
I don’t have time to work on this car. This is a Colorado car that I
brought to NC 4 month ago and still have clean Colorado title. No rust.
I have spare set of doors. Car runs great, mechanically sound. The
interior is somewhat beat up, the seats could use new covers, but still
in good shape.
