Re: [MBZ] OT - Score! FB Marketplace

Yeah, that’s half the battle, seeing it ASAP and pulling the trigger.

I’m surprised no one had jumped on the snowblower, as it had been listed since
early yesterday. The weather has been glorious here for the last week or so, so
possibly people weren’t looking? Usually these go fast.

One potential buyer made them an offer for $250 in the listing, which was a
dumb move. Of course they told him “No”.

Yeah I've been looking for a rototiller but now is the wrong time of year.
Should have moved faster on the Cub Cadet tiller that was listed here last
winter, but by the time I called it was sold. Everything else right now is too
far away or more than I want to spend.

I'll probably end up renting one for this spring, then look again in the fall.

I aggressively search for things I want/need in the off season if they’re
seasonal. A good example? A snowblower for the Flagstaff house.

A really nice three year old Ariens came up on FB marketplace not more than a
few streets over. Owner is moving to Phoenix, won’t need it there, just wants
it gone.

Snagged it for $300. Just got it home and unloaded from the ML courtesy of the

I’ll run it dry with some StaBil and change the oil so it’s ready for next
winter when the snow comes. And it will.

Depends.

Most states will allow an inspection at an approved facility and issue a
“rebuilt” title if it passes. Do realize that a lot of mainline insurers won’t
insure a car with a branded title.

This ADSB receiver I got the boy is a major time suck. While we’ve still got to

I’ve seen three FedEx planes on their way to Honolulu this afternoon, one of
them an MD-11. Another FedEx MD-11 going from MEM to LAX right behind the other.

It’s also interesting how many private jets there are who don’t report their

It’s always lurking and can occur at any time. Looks like they did a lot of

For changing oil or exposure to old oil and grease, I use nitrile gloves I buy
at HF when they have them on sale.

For other work that doesn't involve oil and grease, I use mechanics gloves. In
addition to keeping your hands clean, they also help prevent soft tissue
injuries when wrenches slip.

I like nitrile gloves. I *think* you recommended Tiger Grip gloves and I like
them when they are available.

You get used to gloves... there's little I can't do with them now. It's
nice to keep your hands clean and somewhat protected, but also consider
the long term benefits. Constant exposure to ancient oil, grease and dirt
isn't good for your long-term chances of getting cancer.

This.

I wore gloves decades ago before it was fashionable. When you’re in contact
with waste oil, chemicals and other nasty stuff on a daily basis, it just makes
sense. I don’t want that stuff getting absorbed into my skin. A secondary
benefit is the ability to have clean hands outside of your work.

I glove up whenever I work on my cars. Always.

Some say let it sit for several hours to a day and make sure it holds a vacuum.
That makes sense on a customer car when you don't want to do it twice. For
someone like me who's probably doing it again anyway, it's overkill. Vacuum an
hour. Let it hold vacuum an hour. Recharge system.
That may be overkill to some.

Re: [MBZ] OT generator expert expert opinion

2022-04-10 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
A couple of thoughts here:

1.) DRS Fermont, a big contractor to the DOD in the past, is long gone and the
chance of finding spares would be slim to none.

2.) That being said, if it’s a regulator, generator technology is such that
there is nothing unique about the design of such systems, meaning that it’s
likely one could find a third party part to do the job. And that’s if it’s the
regulator. If it’s winding issues, they’re scrap.

[MBZ] A new reality of working on cars

2022-04-10 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
Now that I am on lots of blood thinners it’s a whole new adventure working on
cars. It’s a good day when I don’t do something that then leads to bleeding
out. Today replacing the AC compressor on the 99 has not been blood free so
far.

The 76 240D that I have that was my grandmothers has ever single service record
since new. This is the car I also took my drivers test in. Car has been sitting
since 1997 waiting for me to drop an engine in it after the old one was ran out
of oil. Why have I been putting this off? Anyway it was kind of funny in that
paperwork when the original owner bought it they had a piece of paper written
out detailing the cost of the w123 that was coming out at the time vs the cost
of this w115 and how much they would be saving.
They obviously ended up buying the 115.
