Interesting. Since the steering wheel appears to be intact there is a
chance the car was not abused. Not a fan of velour seats as they soak up
cigarette smoke like a sponge.

The V12 Guy designed and builds his own coils so yeah they’re better. The
coilovers are NOT an upgrade.

Are the coil packs an actual upgrade?
I'm guessing the suspension mods are not.
Mitch.

Yeah so far I like my W211 but the complexity is somewhat offputting. Probably
won't buy anything newer than a W126 going forward.

They say while they don’t absolutely need the ignition switch, the results will
be better if they have it so that everything is synchronized.

I believe so. They need to clone the data from the old ECU so it will

coded together as a group, you can’t just swap one out from the junkyard
or recode one without recoding all of the other parts.

At least that’s the way it’s been explained to me, and why I avoid any car
that’s got EIS issues. It’s something the dealer has to do.

Totally agree, but even a car as “new” as a W211, or a W210 for that matter,
can have similar problems as they use EIS much like the GL500 does.

I love my ML550, but I do have reservations about it from that standpoint. That
being said, EIS issues are pretty rare, but when they do crop up you’re pretty
much screwed unless you go with an aftermarket repair option.

I do agree with Jim, though. In another 5-10 years many of these cars will go
straight to the crusher when they die, as they will be unrepairable.

Re: [MBZ] Wagon Mileage Champ

2023-04-25 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
Doubt it.

CarFax maintenance records are spotty, at best, because they rely on service
providers to self report. I would want to see the owner’s service records and a
VMI. If a new engine was installed in 2000, it was likely done by a dealer
under a warranty or recall campaign, as the car would only have been a year old
at that time.

Salvage (branded) title immediately kills the value. Paint looks like it might
be a little sketchy, too.
