I've noticed that our rainfall patterns are different now. The total rainfall is the comfortably normal, but there are fewer storms that are more violent. Today in a 20-minute period we received an inch of rain as the front passed through. Trees and limbs down all over the place. [MBZ] OT: I hates meeses to pieces
You might remember the 1989 Tucker Sno-Cat that I run for the snowmobile club. I got a friend to let me park it in his RV garage for the summer. Today I went over to do some sadly neglected maintenance on it. The last couple winters I've run it I fought mouse nests. The guy who ran it before me apparently didn't care. Every time you turn on the heater it would blow acorns and pine needles and mouse poop around the cab, no fun. So I pulled the heater fan out and found: https://photos.app.goo.gl/exp3aKd6fCNBbX7u9 You can just see the heater core. Whoever designed that heater box needs a trip to remedial design school. I can't for the life of me figure out how you're supposed to clean it. I think step one is to remove the whole box from the cab. Terrible design. https://photos.app.goo.gl/9RFEYGWeFHYm12pm8 The big circle is one of the ducts out of the heater box, to the right of that is a tunnel under the box which is the fresh air intake. It was absolutely crammed with mouse next. I spent a lot of time jamming the shopvac hose down there. Then I had to put a socket extension in to try to pull stuff from under the heater core to where I could pull it out with the vac. The heater box assembly should be hinged so you could get in there... Anyhow I got it mostly cleaned, the fan moves 100x more air now than it did before, imagine that. This machine was a real foot freezer, hopefully it'll be more fun to run. I also removed a broken track cleat. I'd mostly repaired one to replace it but had forgotten to weld in a stud that had broken off so I'll do that and repair the broken one at the same time. Tucker cleats are pretty fragile and apparently break regularly. This is my first, I guess a milestone. On the positive side the machine fired up with just a touch of the key. [MBZ] The cheapening of Mercedes
Used to be you had 2 brake pad wear sensors per wheel, one for each pad. Later they went with 1 sensor per wheel. On the 210 there is 1 sensor for each front wheel and 1 sensor on one of the back wheels. Now with the 211 I see there is one sensor on the RF wheel and one on the LR wheel. So we went from 8 sensors to 2. This must have saved MB a coupe of dollars per car. It’s actually kind of pathetic how newer model MBs are about the same mechanically as any other car on the road.
