Yebbut for mixed driving over 700 Mi the fuel consumption is 30.5 miles per
gallon. Not bad for a big SUV with plenty of power and lots of comfort
features.

Great!

For last year's partial eclipse, we had a fellow come to my church who
brought his special eclipse telescope/camera and eclipse glasses for all
of us there. I saved the pair I was given and used them again today. Even
the fellow from the telephone company who came to fix my telephone
appreciated being able to see the eclipse.

Yabbut that’s only 13 miles! Hardly a decent sample.

My ML550 was “showing” in the 20s in mpg last week when I made a pinball
machine run to Durham, NC. Actual calculated was barely 19 mpg. The error in
these calculations on the car is pretty significant. I’ve never had an MB that
provided this information be remotely close to the real world data. Some were
certainly closer than others, but some were really outrageous.

It was actually disappointing the more I think about it. I planned on coming
down to DFW for a long time, but when it looked like clouds and rain, I then
lucked out and booked a backup hotel in Russleville AR which was going to dead
center. Wife and kid did not like that idea and wanted to come down here. Had
we stayed on the side of town where our hotel is, we probably would have seen
it. The clouds were too far east where we were and the exact wrong moment. It
was perfectly clear in Russellville. Oh well. Next one 2044.

get sideswiped a coupla years ago on driver side and she had doors and
fender replaced with OE parts, no frame damage just mostly superficial,
I couldn't tell anything by the paint, maybe she got black parts to match.

Drove it and it ran fine, RF CV joint was clattering on turns and the AC
was intermittent, had a "F" code on the regulator/resistor.  I'll get
one and swap it there so I have AC to drive home, $40 and an easy job
looks like, pretty much the same as on the 211 wagon I did a year or two
ago. She said the AC needed to be charged (I think because the regulator
issue), a scan showed the pressure was a little low but it was cooling
OK when it ran so will need to dump in a bit of juice.

The airmatic was a little unbalanced but it probably needs a reset to
get all the corners happy with one another, but no faults on the system
so that was good.  She said she had new front struts put on about 1.5yr
ago so that was good.  BFG all weather tires are late 2022 and have lots
of tread left on them so that right there is probably $800+ worth.

I'm going to order front axle shafts, blower regulator, break pats, and
xenon bulbs (damn those things are expensive and was the only other F
code).  The front axle shaft is the only major effort but actually
doesn't look too bad.

It's filthy inside with dog hair so will need a good detail in and out
but that is not bad to do.

I gotta find someone to drive up there so I can collect it this week,
will check in with friends and see who is up for a road trip.

Oh, so the sticker -- I remarked on it and she laughed and said her
granddad had given her a 84? 300D that had been his and it came with
that sticker on it, so she found another one and put it on the S550,
thought it was kinda funny and the old guy liked it.    I might keep it
along with a Greta sticker.

Going there to watch an eclipse is so random. What/who drove that? AZBob Sent from Mail for Windows From: Kaleb Striplin via MercedesSent: Monday, April 8, 2024 1:39 PMTo: Mercedes Discussion List; davesl...@okiebenz.comCc: Kaleb StriplinSubject: [MBZ] The eclipse I spent the eclipse at Southfork Ranch (for those that remember the show).  It was a nice event and cloudy skies to start off. As the eclipse started, it was hit and miss with the clouds clearing. Right at the last 2-3 minutes to totality, heavy clouds started rolling in. Right at the time, nothing to see at all except a dark normal cloud evening. Within about 5 minutes after totality, clouds cleared and hardly a cloud in the sky.   Here are some pics for you.
