When I needed a alternator for mine the prices were usually around $100 for a
remanufactured one and thats a genuine Bosch. Thats a 55 amp so they aren't
overly expensive

I always saw rusted out cars as a sign of neglect, but considering rust

Most of those older Benz's do not require any type of high octane fuel. Higher
octane gas which is mostly required in LEV's or Low Emission Vehicles. Higher
octane say 91 or higher does not burn faster than say 87 or 89 it burns slower
which results in a cleaner burn. Almost all of the pre 90's

Of course there is always a lurking W140 diesel (maybe if very lucky
with a rebuilt engine).
MPG on mine 500SEL range from 16-18 (usa gallon), 21 was highest with
an extended run at 90-100mph north of LA.

Reliability aside, Honda's and Toyotas may still be the benchmark but speaking
for owners I know I'm told the only good thing with them now is the
drivetrains. Hyundai's and Kia's might be decent cars but not according to
their crash tests. Makes me wonder why they have such long warranties.
