The earlier 602.961 engine puts out a few more hp and the EGR can be
disabled without causing the engine to drop

I would guess the mounts for various accessories, exhaust manifold
outlet, air cleaner mount, things like that - chassis specific
adaptations.
However - I've never laid eyes on a '87 190D - so all the above is a WAG.
