Re: [MBZ] Another productive day in the garage
Hi Peter - BTW, when you did the 300D rear shocks did you secure the springs? When I did my 91 rear shocks I did /not /as I never saw a need to do so on the rear before. When I looked over the WSM sheets they cautioned about securing the springs - I guess I got lucky as nothing happened. but the WSM made it sound dangerous. I know of the danger in the fronts, just got lucky I guess -- just curious --- LarryT 91 300D On 1/18/2015 10:18 PM, Peter Frederick via Mercedes wrote: Put a used half-shaft in my brother's 300E today, cured the vibration on the highway. Also finally got around to installing new shocks on the rear of the 300D -- quite an improvement in ride with a great reduction in noise, I may enjoy my drive to work every day now. I certainly will enjoy the 30 mpg over the TE's 20! Later this week we will tackle the right rear wheel bearing on the TE along with the spring link bearing (the left one had no boots left, seriously corroded, right side makes at least as much noise). Probably need to replace the right front wheel bearing too, its thumping, I think. Could be just the rear, but I doubt it.
