The 12' ceiling really held me up for a while until I had an experienced
installer come and look at my space. Some lifts require that height for
the columns, but the Mohawk I have has shorter columns with overhead
hydraulic lines that are adjustable. I have 10.5' ceilings and can raise
any car (I've had quite a few, as heavy and large as a long W140) full
standing height, maximum height of the lift. I can store a vehicle under
if needed, as I did a few times this year during winter storms. A truck or
tall vehicle would be an issue, but I don't own any of those.

I paid $8k installed for a 7k asymmetrical Mohawk. No regrets at all. The
7k isn't available anymore and their next smallest lift is quite a bit more
expensive unfortunately.

When I buy a lift it'll be a Wildfire 4 post. Watch the Vice Grip Garage

assembled it himself.

I like the idea of being able to move it around. I also like the idea of being
able to park a car under it and the fact that it runs on 110v.

A Mohawk lift is designed to work with low ceiling clearance. 10” will suffice
I believe. The other conventional two post lifts do require higher ceilings as
you mentioned. The slightly more budget friendly (and it’s not budget friendly)
7K Mohawk is no longer in production so you’re stuck forking up even more for
a 10K lb capacity Mohawk System 1A lift which is outrageously expensive.

There are cheap or cheaper 4 post lifts out there that will work with low
ceiling clearances though.

I am guessing it's not justified by the amount of work that I do, on the
other hand maybe I'd keep up on stuff better if it was less of a PITA to
actually do the work.

Details, details. Fed stopped publishing weekly data but still publishes
monthly data. But the "latest" information is not so current. Here near
mid-June, the latest published data is April. The M1 data
(https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/M1SL) is sobering, jumping from $4T in
April 2020 to $19T in April 2021 (almost 5x in a year). M1 is cash plus demand
deposits (like checking accounts), i.e., right-now money. That's a LOT of
demand. The printing pressed have been busy.

More to the point, the value of US dollars has gone down by a third, thanks to
the Treasury and the Fed. Check the M1. M2, and M3 charts if you can find
them. The Fed discontinued publishing M3 data some time ago and discontinued

Re: [MBZ] Cheap Chinese lifts

2021-06-08 Thread Scott Ritchey via Mercedes
More to the point, the value of US dollars has gone down by a third, thanks to
the Treasury and the Fed. Check the M1. M2, and M3 charts if you can find
them. The Fed discontinued publishing M3 data some time ago and discontinued
weekly M1 and M2 data recently (your inner voice should be screaming WTH?).
If you can buy something now that's needed and durable, do so. This will not
end well.

Check the price of steel over the past 60 days. Steel has risen in price over
150%. That, along with the price of fuel, which impacts ship fuel, and road
fuel, also, has impacted the end price of Chinese goods.

When you use a two post lift how do you know where to place the lift

Somewhat hard for everyday knickknacks but easy for bigger expensive items such
as a car lift. I ordered a Mohawk 2 post lift for my garage a few weeks ago.
100% made in the USA. Hugely expensive but I don’t care.

Re: [MBZ] Cheap Chinese lifts

2021-06-08 Thread Clay via Mercedes
May not be worth your hourly rate, but stripping them will give better ROI to
my mind. Pahts is Dahllahs! Squished car is just $40/ton. Maybe it has gone
up more recently. Hard to tell, as the PnP down south of me is not turning
over inventory the way it was pre-plague. Carcasses sit for two or three weeks
longer before getting swapped out and there is a decline in density on the rows.

If scrap has become gold, then I would expect the rotting snow machines and
other metal debris would be getting scooped out of the muskeg and tundra, put
on barges, and shipped to china. I have not heard any plans for this. Though
I am seeing a surge on CL of scrap cars for crack prices.
