Re: [MBZ] them damn Germans
What I usally do in a case like this is to cut an allen key just enough so it sits in the bolt plus a little bit sticking out and then get the approprate size spanner on what is left sticking out. Good idea to get the ring end on the allen key. One of the tricks is not to get the allen key hot while cutting it. Hendrik rarely beaten with stuff like this - Original Message - From: Kaleb C. Just need to get my snap ring plyers in there and pull that cover and try and replace the little seal under there. Would probably be best just to swap in a whole new govener/pump/whatever from another tranny. Damn germans used allen bolts to mount it. Re: [MBZ] them damn germans
Kaleb, My experience is that the transmissions need rebuilt around 170k, also some of the later models had some bad clutches, thus it might be worth your time to just pull tranny and put new clutches in it. It looks like I might have to pull the engine on my 560SEL, it appears to have a leak around oil pan, which someone had tried used epoxy on the outside to fix. Re: [MBZ] them damn germans
Hi Kaleb, When I removed the intake manifold on my 300D I had trouble with the allen bolts - I ended up buying several allen wrenchs for the next time - one set I bought has special rounded ends which they say allows the wrench to be used at a 30-45 degree angle. I haven't used it to break a bolt loose but I did trial fit it in a allen bolt typically hard to access and t seemed to grab the allen bolt pretty securely. http://www.wihatools.com/indexes/indx_ballhex.htm The tools I bought from Wiha appear to be high quality and the finish looks long lasting - I got the black finish. But best of all, these tools will make the job of replacing glow plugs much easier - and they may work for you. BTW, there doesn't appear to be a minimum order - in case you want to try one before getting a set. That would be Un-German now wouldn't it? They think it should be done out of the car so why not pull the trans? (Their thinking NOT mine) Vee haff vays uf doink sings Jeff Zedic Toronto
Re: [MBZ] them damn germans
+Im thiking it just might be easier to pull the tranny. I already unhooked the driveshaft to try and get the back of the tranny to drop more but it didnt help much.
