where the
low pressure switch and/or relay reside on an '84 300D?
Should be right on the receiver/drier.

Thanks Joe!
So, is it possible that the compressor clutch is always engaged whenever the
key is switched on, due to a faulty low pressure switch or compressor
relay? Remember, this system presently has no refrigerant, so I assume the
compressor shouldn't be allowed to operate--correct? Anyone
On my 79 TD, the LP switch (if I remember right) is down low on the left
on the refrigerant pipe, I think there is a fitting there with the
referenced device, and a wire(s) coming out of it. I think it traces
back to the compressor. It is fairly easy to get at, and to see if it
is

Wow, thanks! When I attempted to access those myself, I just got an error
message. Has the site been mirrored somewhere else, possibly different than
my bookmarked link?

I have had problems linking to some of the sites. In the case of later

The compressor should run almost all the time that the engine is running if
the climate control is anywhere besides Off or Economy. (assuming there's
at least SOME refrigerant in there).

Those files are mainly for manual a/c, Casey. I've scanned the wiring
diagram from my paper manual for acc2, stripped from list copy, which
I think might provide much of what you need. 83.8-603/15. Those
things aren't really legible in the cd version anyway.

I'm attempting to diagnose my wife's '84 300D A/C, and can't quite figure
out where all the components reside. The steaky and braingears sites have
apparently gone AWOL. I ran my RobinAir vacuum pump on the system for an
hour, and it held for at least an hour afterwords, so I leaked some

Ah ha, you are correct. I'll try again tomorrow evening with the valves in
the closed position.

Casey,
It sounds like you have the valves open on your test gages, and
the pressure
is equalizing through the manifold. Make sure both
so I fixed that, and it now engages. The system maintains a high/low
pressure of 75 psi at rest, and 90 psi with the engine running--the
same on
both sides in each case. Help, I'm an idiot.
Hey, ya idjit, close the manifold valves! Did you see the part of my
story where the gauge-set hoses
