Sometimes I try to unload stuff I would rather not throw away. For example, I
had some left over drywall pieces from doing my kitchen. These weren’t scraps,
they were 4’x4’ and 18”x4’ pieces, in good condition and not dinged up. I put
them on the global group and got nothing for a day. OK, I got it, they’ll go in
the trash. The next day I get swamped with the “Is this still available” dings.
I followed up with 2-3 of them. Two of them took better than four hours to say
they weren’t interested (???) and one said they would come and get them. I was
outside later in the day, had them leaning up against my mailbox. A van drove
by, slows down, the driver looks at the drywall, then drives off. About 2
minutes later I get a message from the person saying it’s too far away and
they’re bailing.

Re: [MBZ] 240TD

2021-05-23 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
The other issue I have been running too lately is a car will be listed for
weeks. Finally get a response, we setup a time and I show up to other people
there at the same time looking at it, or after 2 hours on the road I’m almost
there and get a message that it’s sold. People just have no common sense or
common courtesy when selling items.

Re: [MBZ] 240TD

2021-05-22 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
I actually had a really good Marketplace experience yesterday. A guy had
listed some tractor wheel weights while I was away last week so I didn't
contact him since I was gone. I contacted him yesterday around lunch, he
responded immediately that I could go at 6pm, I showed up and handed him cash,
he gave me wheel weights, a bucket full of tire chains and a weight bracket
from a different tractor. About as good a transaction as you could ask for.

2021-05-22 Thread Dimitri Seretakis via Mercedes
They are rare but you do come across them. I saw one in the LL Bean parking lot
2 weeks ago in Freeport, ME. It was white with manual tranny like this one and
it was completely rust free. I left a note on the windshield asking if it was
for sale. Didn’t hear back.
There was one for sale about 9 years ago in Appleton, ME. I passed on it due to
rust.

All wagons have manual sunroof - if they have a sunroof.

But manual HVAC and door windows would be nice. And I think it would
be easier to put a turbo motor in that to try to take a automatic HVAC

Euro 240Ds with SLS are rare in wagon form, really rare in sedan form,
but you're not going to restore it and sell it for Pagoda prices.

If it was anybody but you, I'd say a rusty 240d is worth $300 for
scrap, plus whatever the used engine might be worth to you. Or, if
it's currently on the road, anything that runs and passes inspection
might be worth $1000-1500.

Given your obvious talent with rust, it might be worth more to you,
but why pay

more than market for it?

Mitch.

Re: [MBZ] 240TD value

2013-05-07 Thread Dan Penoff
The rocker panel rust is the deal killer. This is so insidious on a 123 chassis
it's not funny. There is no band-aid repair you can do that will restore the
integrity of this area, as there are several layers of metal, all of which have
to be addressed.

I see the occasional 123 vergasser Euro wagon around here, and they are usually
thrashed. I can't imagine a diesel of similar vintage would be any better.

You can buy a really decent 240D for that kind of coin. If it was $800, maybe
for the novelty value, but that would be about it.

Manual windows and sunroof would be a positive, also manual HVAC controls.

I realize that this car is quite rare but is it worth pursuing for the $2500 that the owner might accept?

Euro 240Ds with SLS are rare in wagon form, really rare in sedan form, but
you're not going to restore it and sell it for Pagoda prices.

If it was anybody but you, I'd say a rusty 240d is worth $300 for scrap, plus
whatever the used engine might be worth to you. Or, if it's currently on the
road, anything that runs and passes inspection might be worth $1000-1500.

Given your obvious talent with rust, it might be worth more to you, but why pay
more than market for it?

Mitch.
