I changed my fuel filters last night and in the process lost a lot of diesel on the ground. However I was able to get the car started after 4 starts. For those that are having problems you may want to try lifting the rear of the car in the air (park on down hill slope etc) to try starting. I

123 and 124 (and 126) sedans all have the tank behind the back seat. On these cars, having the tank more than 1/2 full (not sure exactly where the mark is in each chassis design) results in fuel flowing under gravity pressure to the fuel prefilter and then on to the filter and IP. So,

I can't recall how much fuel I had in the tank whenever I changed my fuel filters, but I do know I always filled up the main filter with diesel or some additives to ensure a smooth start. I used to use the clear pre-filters to judge how clean my fuel was. Changing them no sooner than 60,000
