I have a voltmeter very similar to the one from Wal-Mart. I observe that it
is not particularly accurate and the reading is off by a good bit if the
meter is hot (like sitting in a closed car). Still, it's convenient.

Autozone employee hooked me up with an H8 gold top Duralast ($5 more
than the red top and 1000cca instead of 900). The H8 apparently
replaces the group 49 and it even says so on the battery itself.

Remember this is a 190D, serpentine belt. Belt is quite new, maybe 6 mo. old.

no longer capable of holding full charge when under load. Max AC puts load
on battery, battery discharge rate is greater than it's now able to intake
and hold charge, Alt output from regulator increases to try to make up t

greatly prefer over an idiot light) it's hard to tell, but I suspect
you are drawing lots of amps all the time charging a battery that's
dead. When the aux fan kicks in you don't have enough juice.
