Our 85 300CD turbo once got as high as 30 mpg on a long trip (fully loaded
with luggage and a cat) but around town it's pretty abysmal (18-19).

performance is ok. Freeway cruising no real difference between the two, on
ramps tell you its not turbo'd.
In the past I've been told the 5 cyl NA accelerates like a 240D with stick
shift, don’t know if that true but it sure
My coupes are both turbos but I drove a NA coupe once and it actually had
decent performance. I think they may be a bit more reliable and easier to
maintain with better longevity than the turbo. I would expect 29 mpg, not 39.
They are heavy cars after all, the coupes are listed as only 80 lbs

and the color. But, I have never driven one of these without a turbo.

I don't know Bruce he only gets 39 mpg with it.
