It looks like a really cheaply built car from the era of garbage Mercedes but
the 5 speed is intriguing.

This is correct. There are issues with compressor shaft seals that have to be
dealt with. I believe it’s not that bad of a repair on a scale compared to say,
an M648(?) oil cooler, but it’s not fun.
I researched this somewhat when I started looking for R170s for Mrs. Dan and
what I found made
I think the engines are OK, and it's the Kompressors that are considered
normal wear parts.
I never liked the idea of crankshaft driven superchargers on passenger
car engines in the first place, but that's just me...

If this were closer I'd take a look. I'd love to find a nice example of
an MB with a manual. With the nest emptying a smaller car would work for
me now.

Rode a bit today in a Cheep230 Mit Kompressor. It was nowhere near
as bad as curmudgeon Woger (RIP) made out. It WAS noisier than a
