I worked for NASA 3 summers in college with internships, and interviewed
for jobs with aerospace firms when I graduated Purdue, then decided that
being a little cog in some big machine, sitting in a desk farm or a
drone in the gummint (though NASA did have some cool toys), was not for
me.

Interesting.
Like I said - my first boss had aeronautics from ND but PhD in civil.
Ya kinda wonder how many in aeronautics education make a living in
that. Aeronautics offers a nice cache in feel good way... but perhaps
is useless except
I never felt that I was educated in my college years getting a BS and
MS in engineering. Part of that (realistically, a fairly small part)
was my fault, but I did not know any better. My education consisted
more of being taught stuff, and learning stuff I was taught, than in
actually being

Yes you are correct, I think it was the first plane designed that way,
once flight computers got good enough to control the airplane. It makes
them much more maneuverable as they really want to go off in random
directions, the trick is to get them to go where you want.

Just a guess, but hydrazine is used as the fuel for
spacecraft(satellites)because it can be passed over a heated catalyst bed to
change it from a liquid fuel to copious amounts of what you might call coal
gas. In the spacecraft

You forgot one VERY important point--F16's are ENTIRELY fly-by-wire.
I've seen it before, btw, and it's way cool.

Why hydrazine to fuel the APU? Why not a normal auxiliary gas turbine like the
APU on a normal airliner?

Begs the question why the pilot needs to deal with landing after a
flame-out. I would think the flight computers could calculate an
optimal glide path and landing spot once the pilot tells it where it
needs to be.

Here's the F-16 dead stick into Elizabeth City, NC: A fairly short RWY for
jets, (about 6000 ft long), but qualifies for an Emergency landing field
in the grand scheme of US aviation.
You'll probably have to watch the video several times to appreciate how
