Yes he flew it yesterday morning early before the winds picked up. It's not waterproof, so that aspect is a bit concerning, esp if launching from a boat or it crashes in the water. I told him to zip tie some plastic bottles to it to give some flotation. $1500 is not cheap, but it is worth the risk I guess. --FT On 4/29/19 9:09 AM, Meade Dillon via Mercedes wrote: The limiting factor will be wind, especially at sea, so hopefully he knows the limits of the machine and keeps "a weather-eye aloft". The civilian GPS is accurate horizontally to 3 meters, but GPS was not designed for vertical measurement and is off quite a bit in altitude sometimes, closer at other times. Military GPS signals are accurate to 3 ft. The signal released to civilian use is "supposed " to be downgraded to "about 3 meters" give or take, so your target accuracy will be off, I suppose. GPS [civilian version] should give you altitude to within 3 meters anywhere you are. Do smart phones have GPS function? [Refuse to use one, so I don't know]. Most ATIS and AWOS stations have phone numbers you can call to hear the reports - I find them at https://www.airnav.com/ in the Airport Communications section like this: CTAF/UNICOM: 122.8 WX ASOS: 133.975 (405-282-0478)It can be tricky to find the airport name nearest you without a chart though if you don't already know. Re: [MBZ] FS just up the road
From the ad - "the steering wheel, which is equipped with an altimeter." I did once install an altimeter and a turn & bank indicator in the VW bug (1951 model). The altimeter didn't move much unless I was in the mountains, and even then it was slow. The turn & bank bounced from peg to peg all the time - worthless, but then, who'd want to make a 2 minute per 360 degree turn in the car?
