Need to make two stops, unless you're planning to steal them.

Take a load of aluminum ingots back to _1835_, swap them for

one of those Hogan's Heroes-mobiles.  (Twin rear axles, open car.)

Make a midway stop and throw a Gullwing onto the trailer too.
Park a Shelby Cobra behind it while you're at it.

Use the leftovers to buy your McMansion with the large (Leno) garage.
Drive and live in style for so long as you can.

Wait for the Time Police to come a-knockin... or the IRS.  Either will do.

Looks perhaps like MB's answer to those Ford tour buses
that are still used in Glacier National Park.  It's an awfully
cute little thing, wouldn't mind having one.

Except it clearly should be parked inside, and it's lng.

On a Jag, yes - on these cars, for the most part, no. The later M120 is a

or maintenance, mainly because there’s a lot more stuff due to the larger

The real beauty of this car is that it’s nearly the last year of production, so 
all of the refinements that the W140 got over it’s design life are incorporated

wiring, no evaporator issues, COP ignition, etc., etc. 1998 and 99 were the 
ideal years for any W140, regardless of the model. Tommy’s 1998 S420 was a

pretty bulletproof, not particularly hard to work on though various 
electronic bits might go wonky.  ADS is pretty straightforward as you 
have pointed out.  And the performance is pretty good!  You really 
should go for it and enjoy it, it looks pretty nice.  And you got all 
that cash burning a hole from the BaT sale...

Someone a few years back had 3 or 4 of the black taxis they were setting 
up to use in Charleston.  Saw them around for awhile but I guess it 
didn't last long.  There's not a huge taxi demand around town, and now 
uberlifts are what most people use I think.

Well, it depends upon what you want.

You had mentioned wanting a backup car. Would the Finnie fulfill that
role, or would you be hesitant for some to drive it?

Are the tasks on the Finnie approaching completion and you are looking
for something else to do?

If you look at the photos of the car on BAT, it looks rusty underneath 
and the underhood photos indicate it has been driven where they use salt 
in the winter.

If I could pick something up that’s a dead nuts reliable ride for under $3k 
just to have a spare set of wheels on hand I would do it. I don’t want another 
project right now, just a reliable ride I can have in the pocket in the event 
that one of the daily drivers is VOR. As I mentioned previously, I’ve got free 
indoor parking about three streets away, so I’ve got a place to stash it when 
it’s not being used.

That would give me the ability to drive it and give my car to someone else in 
the family in the interim if necessary. It’s not like cars are falling by the 
wayside around here, but it’s nice not having the pressure to resolve an issue 
if you’ve got a spare to fall back on.

The 240D guy has someone coming up from Ft. Myers to look at it this weekend,

I spoke with the owner via texts this morning and he sent me some pictures.

Only issues the car has from the discussion was the AC being low (blows cool, 
not ICE COLD) and the transmission shifting hard and only when you lift off the 
throttle.  Seems that there was some sort of vacuum issue recently which led to 
the brake booster being replaced, and the car hasn’t shifted correctly since. 
His mechanic told them to bring the car by and he would sort it out but he 
hasn’t had time.

I’m wondering about the mechanic….who, knowing enough about these cars to work 
on them, would not road test and go back and adjust the modulator?

There’s some silicone at the lower left corner of the rear window with some 
signs of rust. Nothing remotely significant but the owner said it was there 
when his daughter bought the car 2-3 years ago and he’s never messed with it. 
No leaks that he’s aware of, and the car has been parked outside.

For $2500, maybe but not $3k.

I’m going to try and see the non-running W114 diesel tomorrow at lunch. I’m not 
going to call, I’l just drop in to the place.

One of the band members, maybe the drummer, I don't recall exactly, was 
a cousin of a kid in my dorm when they played at Purdue in a little 
outdoor theater on Saturday evening.  He came over after and drank beer 
(not allowed!) and it was a hot ticket to get invited to the kid's room.


It was kinda slow there so things like this were A Big Deal.

Yes, but they are brittle. I had some major trouble trying to drill out the 
broken crank bolt on my boy's 240D, until I bought some Latrobe high Cobalt 
bits. Big difference. Broken bolts tend to work harden at the point of the 
break.

 I bought a small set of Cle-line drills a couple years ago, definitely the 
most expensive drill bits I've ever bought but boy do they cut! I had to drill 
out a bolt on the motor for my loader and it zipped right through. I have poor 
luck drilling out bolts but I think its probably because I'd always had cheap 
bits in the past. I bought these on AVE's recommendation...
Strangely Amazon doesn't list that I bought them there and I can't find any 
email referencing them. I'm SURE I bought them from Amazon but I can't find 
that set on  there and I can't find any hint that I might have bought them 
someplace else. I'm tempted to go see if I still have 'em...

Hit the stuck bolts with the air wrench, just let it bang for a good 
while, some fwd/rev trying to loosen them.  Finally sheared one off, 
then the other.  Sigh.  So I got one most of the way drilled out until 
time to quit.  That steel is tough, a center punch got dulled too.  I 
used various sized bits to step up, kept the bit and bolt wet with 
cutting fluid, after an hour the one is most of the way drilled out but 
not quite.  Not real fun.  I guess I'll work on them again this week, 
try to get that wheel off. BAH!


It looks like some old 126 wheel bolts I have are the same as what is on 
this car, so I have a bunch I can use, don't have to order more.  So 
that is a good aspect.

have an extension, support the extension with a jackstand.  then take a 
2 lb LFH and beat on the end of the breaker bar until it frees or about

People would certainly hear you!

Train horns are very popular (at least with the sellers) in the heavy
truck market.

I have thought about them for our truck but my thoughts came down to the
question:

Why would anyone want his truck to sound like a train?

This could be confusing and maybe even dangerous in areas where there is a
train on tracks nearby.

BZZT - WRONG!  It's a six.  4.5 and 3.5 denote V8.

This car began its life in my neck of the woods: it was serviced in
Bethesda, MD at McNey Motors, which begat EuroMotorcars.

Very nice but not worth $10k.
