Re: [MBZ] New wagon
Perhaps it's different at other border crossings. Here in the Great Lakes part of Ontario, the border is always over water, so the Canadian border guards are on the Canadian side, and the Americans on the American side. There are no u-turns on a bridge elevated 1000 ft above the water. I could see land crossings being a much different affair. I just found a cool map showing where the main freight flow in and out of Canada is... http://www.ops.fhwa.dot.gov/freight/freight_analysis/nat_freight_stats/tons_can_lo.htm Tim 1982 300TD (still for sale) 1991 300TE 4Matic -- Date: Mon, 18 Dec 2006 11:38:06 -0500 From: Steve MacSween [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [MBZ] New wagon on 12/18/06 12:49 AM, TimothyPilgrim at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: How does one go about that? There is really no issue with making a U-ie as you approach an OUTBOUND border crossing, as you are only (unless the crossing has an alert on) being screened INBOUND when you enter the other country. Until that point you can pretty much do as you like. That may change with the introduction of the combined border crossings, the first of which is now operating I believe somewhere in Ontario? The US and Cdn border services agencies will operate in a single, combined post. This is partly why our bend-the-pennies national government is FINALLY starting to issue sidearms to border agents. I imagine so they can shoot the U.S. agents when they put ketsup on their ice cream, in the shared lunchrooms. Mac

My parents tell me that when I was 3-5 or so, I'd go (in the drive-in my grandmother used to run) over and get myself a helping of soft-serve and put ketchup on it and that I enjoyed it very much. Of course thirty years later I wonder what the *^*^ was I thinking and why they did not have me checked out for signs of mental instability or defect but hey everyones entitled to youthful transgressions :) -j.

wasn't his car previously registered in the US? If so, there are labels affixed to the vehicle stating that it meets the emission and DOT standards in effect for the date of manufacture. Look closely at these labels, one in the driver's doorjamb and one under the hood. if both say they meet us standards, a letter won't be necessary. if it just says meets federal standards, then a letter from MB will be the only recourse. How does one go about that? I mean, do you have to drive back to Canada, then wait forever in the US-bound lineup, or can you drive right to the US customs office from the same side of the border? So I picked up Zedic's '87 300TD yesterday in Toronto and drove it back to Detroit. Trip went well. I think I'm going to like this vehicle. The 3.0L is quite different than the 2.5L in my '90 124. How was your experience at US Customs. Hope they treated you well. On 12/17/06, Ralph W [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: So I picked up Zedic's '87 300TD yesterday in Toronto and drove it back to Detroit. Trip went well. I think I'm going to like this vehicle. The 3.0Lis quite different than the 2.5L in my '90 124. No noticeable turbo like the 2.5. Jeff left me with a number of unfinished suspension jobs but provided most of the new parts. Should ride like new when I'm done. Good job for the x-mas break. Time to off load the two parts wagons! That should have been an interrogative, as in How was your experience at US Customs? bad me! On 12/17/06, Rory [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: How was your experience at US Customs. Re: [MBZ] new wagon in driveway (91 300TDt)
Ah, yes but I'm in Canada, and the paperwork claims it was a 1990 because of the order paperwork, so anything 15 years or older and the Canadian Govt doesn't care. It has 620 emission control system vehicles with catalyst technique (с 01.03.1985) I was looking at the milage pattern last night, for the first 3 years it did 25K kilometers, then something happened and for 5 years it dropped to 4K, then back to 11k for four years. same dealer involved according to maintence booklet and I was told it was a single owner. I thought there were pretty much no graymarket cars after 1985 or so, unless you're willing to pay $$$ for conversion to satisfy the EPA and DOT. (Assuming you're in the USA, of course.) Sounds like it was converted to match the sedan which was factory certified for USA market. John, are you sure the EGR is factory original? Could you order a car for european delivery with euro options (cloth seats) and US specs? ___ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] For new parts see www.buymbparts.com For repairs see www.oldworldauto.com To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://striplin.net/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_striplin.net John 1983 300TDt 355k Kilometers (mobil 1 Delvac) 1991 300TDt 144k Kilometers (unknown) 1993 500SEL 164k Kilometers (mobil 1 0w40)

...eagerly awaiting pictures of the wagon. I've been contemplating finding a later model E320 wagon, then transplant my OM60X running gear in order to reproduce what you've just found--nice!
