Re: [MBZ] Newer Diesel MB SUV

I think avoiding computers is just a "I'm afraid of new fangled..." It's not
hard to hook up a laptop and look at an ECU. The computers themselves rarely
fail and when they do it's often because of damage.
Once you've got the computer it's way easier to troubleshoot a lot of things
rather than just throwing parts at the problem.
Think of the laptop as another wrench...

IDK anything about the newer MB diesels. Some engines are vulnerable to
a "black death" issue with the injectors, Dan P. can tell you which
ones.

I try to avoid cars that have any computers. But that certainly rules
out anything after the mid 1980s.

My 2014 GLK 250 is anything but a roller skate and has plenty of carrying
capacity. There is a 350 Bluetec SUV that is more massive and IMO inferior
in handling and fuel economy to its economical cousin.

Bought my then-wife a 164 ML350 dizzel, I forget the year now, 2014 maybe ? It
was a CPO off lease, 20ksome miles. It was loads of fun, massive torque.
She’s still driving it and no problems far as I know. I liked it well enough
the few times I drove it. I think it was getting high 20s for fuel mileage.

Test drove a GL350 at the same time and it was noticeably less quick but ok. I
liked it well enough but it was too big for her needs and abilities.

The newer dizzels require the blue pee juice which is not a big issue but
another thing to deal with.

The ML seems a reasonable size for most needs and is quite capable unless you
need to haul a family or a lot of stuff.

[MBZ] Newer Diesel MB SUV

2021-01-31 Thread Donald Snook via Mercedes
My wife is considering a MB diesel SUV. I was surprised to learn that MB is
not making any more diesel cars/SUVs (at least not in USA) anymore. The most
recent I could find was 2016.

I was just searching MB diesel SUV and found several. They are ML, GLK (small
SUV that looks like a roller skate), GL, and GLE.

I think the conventional wisdom on newer MB is they are very nice as long as
they under warranty. I’m wondering if anyone has experience with any of these
MB diesel SUV 2011-2015.
