Dave, Rusty's site shows a stem seal set similar to the pics you have of the OE versions (with a two-pack of stem condoms). Where did you purchase the SIR valve spring compressor? Samstag's site doesn't show a version for the OM60X engines, and ZD MAK shows something that looks similar, but sez i

I did the seals of my 603 at about 300K, I made a tool, but will get the right one next time. The old seals were very brittle. I only changed them because I was in there doing the chain anyway. I noticed NO change in oil consumption/smoking, as Marshall says. Valve seals have little influen

I think Dave M. was the only one on the list who did the valve stem seals on the OM60X engine. I did this on my 240D but I remember the required tool was completely different. 60X engine requires a "bridge" tool and a crawlfoot to do this job. Trial & elimination approach sometimes does get expensi

So, in an effort to diagnose and (hopefully) fix my OM603's excessive blue smoking problem upon acceleration, I picked up a cheap rebuilt 350 SDL turbo on ebay ($150), thinking it might stem a source of oil entering the intake stream--it didn't. My recent compression test didn't reveal any anomalo
