Looks like you'll need to be running a fairly recent kernel, so that
rules out using CentOS unless you deliberately use a newer kernel than
the distribution provides.

The joys of paying extra for the latest and greatest hardware.
A Realtek wifi5 card with two antennae was standard, I figured dual
antennae wifi 6 was worth an extra $10.
I wasn't thinking about drivers, as this one only has room for one SSD
in it and I wasn't planning on dual boot.
If I'd gotten the ZBook yesterday I'd put two SSDs in it and run Win7 on
one.

Linux is pretty good these days. Issues, if any, likely will be with
things like WiFi/Bluetooth, which tend to be cheaply sourced from
vendors who don't care to provide Linux drivers, or things like battery
management, suspend/sleep/resume which are tricky to get right.

Probably best to try to find a review that has tested that exact laptop
with Linux to see how it handles it.

It's becoming more common for laptops to not be upgradable at all.

Mitch, I'm suspecting that because HP is too cheap to include a memory
door, they declare the memory to not be upgradable by a user. Another
possibility: HP did not include a memory door because the HP warranty will
be voided if a mere user opens up the case; they can charge you more $$ and
install the memory for you using this excuse.

If you're willing to pay through the nose for the larger SSD from HP, or
if you're willing to
rip the thing apart to replace the SSD with a big cheap one. 1TB PCIe
SSDs are around $90-100 at Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/Blue-SN550-1TB-NVMe-Internal/dp/B07YFFX5MD/

I'm still trying to figure out what the deal is with the memory, but I
think the situation is that it's not 'user upgradeable' because you have
to tear the thing apart to get to it.

Instructions for getting at the SSD and memory here:
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06719992

The deal may be dead.
I ordered two, and it might be possible to redirect one of them to
another address before it's built

(build date scheduled for Dec 16)

I wanted a 17" with SSD, HDD, and DVD writer.
Ended up with a 15" with a tiny SSD (to be upgraded), but it came with a
high end CPU (Ryzen 7 4700U) and was only $410 plus tax with optional
upgrades to the display and wifi.

Even with a crappy display, $350 for a Ryzen 7 system is crazy cheap.
