Re: [MBZ] OT - Audi V12 Diesel Sports Racer just won the LeMans 24h !!

2006-06-21 Thread Peter T . Arnold

The most bizarre thing about this years LeMans race is the new rule
dictating the drivers not spin their tires when leaving the pits! Even the
announcers (who have a great many years of endurance racing experience)
could not find any reasons for the new rule.

Not rocket science.
Ever notice the huge crowd of spectators/tech's/picture takers around
the cars as they leave?
You need a stable car to drive out in and avoid have to make excuses
after for a tragic accident.
I follow a LOT of drag racing. None would ever be allowed to be
forward of the rear wheels of a car while it Launches. They can and
do turn hard port/starboard in extreme cases of breakage

Completely different situation. Most road racing transmissions don't allow
for easy engagement like a passenger car, the pretty much lockup solid
once the clutch is released. Not spinning the tires is begging to stall in
the pit lane in Formula 1. I'm guessing the ALMS (or Le Mans proper) cars
are pretty much the same.
