I've bought SSDs that were thin, with plastic spacers to make them thick. If you need the thickness to make the connectors line up, leave the spacer on. If your drive bay is thin, or if the drive is screwed from the side and thickness doesn't matter, you can remove the spacer. Mitch. > On

Right, and there are similar drive sleds to put a 2.5" drive in a laptop dvd slot.   In my case, the dvd was no good anyway, so using that space for a second drive was an easy choice. I bought mine from OWC. (Macsales.com) It came with all the specialized tools needed. Scott Ritchey via
