I would suspect the fuel filters unless you KNOW they have been changed recently. They also act as water collectors and can crap up badly with little or no warning. Fuel suppliers for large equipment are notorious for delivering bad fuel, too -- I've had to diagnose the contents a few

Diesel engine only needs 3 things to start and run.. fuel, air, compression.. Since it will fire off on ether, it has air and compression.. you don't have fuel.. thus.. The problem is not uncommon when a cat engine sets unused.. the fuel shutoff solenoid that turns off fuel to shut down the
