Price reduced, hoping to get this sold to a new owner who can give it
the TLC it needs. Please note that while this is a running coach, it is
also 45+ years old and mostly original and unrestored, so it will

The GMC motorhomes were really well done for their time.

My Dad went from a 172 to a Beech V35 (fork-tailed doctor killer), and I got my
private ticket (but I still smoked weed, but never before flying, of course.)

I like the V35 better than the GMC motorhome, but the motorhome is far cheaper
to own/operate/maintain.

Beautiful motor home.

BUT one had to hope it never caught fire. The body was fibreglass and it
would burn to the frame in no time at all.

Can you imagine finding a NOS set of tail lights that would fit that,

Our neighbor in the mid 60’s, Mr. Gobin, had one. It was an oddity among the
Fords and Chevys everyone else had.
His second vehicle was a 1948 International Pickup. As a five year old I
remember “Simonizing” one of the rear fenders on that beast and he paid me a
dime. He then piled a few of us neighborhood kids in the back of the “Binder”
(what he called the International), and took us to the Dairy Queen.

I like when they come across the line in part of it and the SL has a busted
headlight and the finnie has the left front fender nearly torn off. Wonder what
they hit?

2016-09-01 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
Early M180 engines used two solex 2 barrel carbs, Primary and
secondary. Much better over the long haul than the zeniths. no
warping problems.

M120 engines used Solex

The BMW R90S used Del Orto accelerator pump carbs rather then Bings. I
always wanted to find a set cheap and try them on my R75/5. I was never
a fan of the Big vacuum carbs. I tolerate them, but never been a fan.
I AM a fan of the cable slide Bings used on older/smaller BMWs. My
R50/2 would ALWAYS start! Magneto and cable slide Bings.

Never been a fan of carters. I can tolerate Holley 4 bbl. They are
fairly easy to tune.

Yep, I still dislike vergassers. GIve me a good OM engine any day!

Diesel on!

AFAIK, VW used Solex carbs. I think they are similar to the Zeniths. IIRC,
most of the issues were with wear in the shaft holes (no bushings to
replace) leaking air, making it impossible to tune correctly. You should be
able to ream out the shaft holes and insert bushings, but what would the
cost be?

Should be easy enough to find in der vaterland or ebay.deThe
Heckflosse guy in netherlands probably has a source too. Alex G can
probably steer you to some. Oh! and Les Blumner is back in the
country for a week or two. He undoubtedly has connections somewhere
in Europe and /or in the USA. Any good MB restorer should have a
connection somewhere. There is a whole bunch of rabbits to chase.
How 'bout calling pierre?

Not really. This has the Euro manual system, which is stupidly
simple and has no fancy electronics or other garbage to dink with.

This is a beautiful car. The more i look at it the more I like it.

[MBZ] OT A cool developing gadget

2013-06-26 Thread Rich Thomas
For those who have ifones (I just recently got one when my 8 or 10yo
Palm Treo died, I was sad...) this would be really fun. Kickstarter
stuff has risks, but it could be fun.

I built a 3D camera rig and stereo viewer, and there is a Windows app I
used to print the photos, that is fun for just looking at static pics,
but this would kinda automate it. If others had the viewers you could
send them photos and videos.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/935366406/poppy-turn-your-iphone-into-a-3d-camera-0

Poppy is the first device in the world that turns an iPhone into a 3D
camera capable of capturing, viewing and sharing full-motion, full-color
video and stills in 3D.

*How does it work?*

Poppy works with iPhone 4, 4S, iPhone 5 and the fifth generation iPod
Touch. You put your phone in and Poppy's mirrors capture two
stereographic images using your iPhone's single camera.

When you look in the viewfinder, Poppy's lenses combine the two video
streams into a single, crisp, 3D video. It's beautiful, and really hard
to describe or show in two dimensions.

It doesn't need batteries and there are no electronics. It's just optics
and your iPhone's camera and screen, so we can keep the price low
without sacrificing quality.

[MBZ] OT but cool.............Every Chevrolet convertible since 1912

2010-02-25 Thread Rusty Cullens

WHAT A COLLECTION !
Top this one
Every Chevrolet convertible since 1912

Wow ! What do you suppose this collection is worth?

This collection belongs to Dennis Albaugh in Ankeny, Iowa,

   just north of Des Moines.

The personal and private collection consists of 110 + Chevrolet
convertibles...
all years from 1912 to 1975 and Corvette convertibles from 1953 to
1975.

That is a Chevy convertible from every year of manufacture EXCEPT
1939...
The reason? - Chevy didn't make a convertible in '39 -- and ended its
convertible line in '75!

His 'boy toys' include his own 18 hole golf course, copied somewhat
after Augusta National.
He is what you call a REAL Chevy guy, but his passion seems to be
convertibles !

This billionaire made his fortune selling farm chemicals !

This is enough to make a grown man CRY
What a collection..gorgeous !!! Enjoy the trip down memory
lane..

  =

Save your money it's been done. odometergears.com will sell you the gears
for $25 a copy and less if you buy more gears. Also the stock speedo gears,
if you have experienced them, are made of some really soft material so they
don't make noise. The odometergears folks have a new compound that is strong
but really quiet. They also have gears for Porsche and others. I guess there
must be a weakness for the single blade M/B windshield wiper gearbox as they
have a replacement gear for that too. Beware of odometergear.com (missing
the s). A lot more expensive and not as quiet. Excellent customer support!

That plastic string is about $30-40 an ounce in quantity.
Some places will spin out prototypes on that rig for $80 an ounce or so.

There are a lot of speedo gears in an ounce, but I don't know if polycarb or ABS
would be suitable for them or not.

[MBZ] heard a cool sound this morning

2009-01-13 Thread Wonko the Sane
When I left for work this morning, outside air temp was -8F. Because my
garage is insulated, the temp gauge in my 300E said +28F when I started the
car.

On my one mile drive to work, kept hearing this rapid snap, crackle pop
from the car roof. Almost like someone was eating Rice Crispies up there.
The water droplets (garage must have actually been warmer than +28F) on my
car instantly freezing and expanding as I motored on down the snow-covered
highway.

Don't remember ever hearing anything like that before.

Jeff - the last shot is when the well-dressed gentleman pulls into a service
place (like our old time gas stations) and is quizzed by the owner/mechanic
as to what he might want - and when he exhausts the list of what the usual
drive-in customer would want, asks well, what did you come here for?
The driver responds that the children musst, which is the usual German way
to say that they had to relieve themselves. The mechanic sadly turns away
muttering about the die kinder musst, and obviously discouraged that he
wasn't going to make any money on this guy. The facial expressions add a
lot to it.

Re: [MBZ] Prom, was cool swap

2005-10-06 Thread Christopher McCann
Here here. I know lots of fams with many children (and
some with few children) and when they learn to obey,
be polite and think and speak coherently as early as
possible, they RARELY turn out to be problem
children...if ever. Being a Catholic, I cannot leave
out that they learn and practice their Faith early.
That doesn't mean you don't worry about them at times
and that they don't occasionally screw up, but that's
raising children.

I think Lt. Don is convinced I can't pay for my
children, which is funny, b/c he has never seen my
budget sheet or my tax return. Sure, a teenager might
want a Mustang. I wanted a 560SEL when I was in 7th
grade (or so - I'm 32)...did I get one? HELL NO!
Connie is the oldest of 9 and they were dirt poor
farmers...all the simblings are wonderful people, with
good jobs and real/decent lives.

Lt. Don must like getting me going on this, cuz he
keeps bringing it up. I'm tired of answering. If my
daughters are all drug addicts and whores in 20 years,
then I'll go weep on his 72 year old shoulder...but
till then, I'll just worry about being a good daddy.

out. Chris

Any turbo diesel is going to have exhaust temps around 200-300 degrees
at idle, up to 1000-1300 F at max power. I'm guessing around 500-600

going down the freeway in your 617. That's hot enough to coke dino
oil, but not M-1. When I pull off the freeway at a rest stop, I let
it idle for 30 seconds or so,

I find this also reduces the spike in water temperature. If I come to a
stop after a hard freeway run and immediately shut off the engine, the
heat soak sometimes spikes the coolant temperature by 10 or 15 degrees
C. I've seen this on normally-aspirated engines in various cars, as
well as in my 300D Turbo.

Re: [MBZ] 1987 300SDL cool down

2005-09-24 Thread Christopher McCann
I asked Marshall about this a while ago. cool downs
are for gas engines with turbos as they get much
hotter. Only on a long trip, hot weather, etc would a
little cool down be recommneded IF using dino oil. If
using synthetic (say Mobil 1 :-) ), it will never cook
off, so no cool downs necessary.

I am sure Marshall will correct this if I have
misrepresented what he said.

Does he do a cool-down idle after highway runs, or

been using dino oil, the bearings in the turbo are
 coked up and it
won't spin at low engine rpms.
