I think there is. I have a keyless fob for the 87 wagon. The same company
makes remote start fobs. I will see if I can recall the company name. Seems
like they do or have done these for many mercedes cars.

That's the ticket, put those on a timer, done. Afternoons at work there's no

That car won’t warm up significantly just sitting at idle in low ambients. It
will be warmer than a cold start, of course, but he probably won’t have cabin
heat until he starts driving for a couple of miles.

I vote for the block heater. Far more efficient and doesn’t waste fuel. Have
him throw an extension cord in the trunk for plugging in at work. And what’s
with that, after all? It’s flippin’ North Dakota! Doesn’t every place have a
receptacle for block heaters? Seems like they did when I was there some years
ago.

Coldest place I’ve ever been in a car was Wausau, WI in January. Was driving a
Ford Escort wagon with vinyl seat material. Went outside one morning to start
the car to warm it up, and the interior of the car was so cold (I think the
ambient temp was around -20F) that the seat didn’t compress when I sat on it.

I've pretty much decided I kind of loathe this feature. Way too many
people using it and stinking up the place. So it's a little cold. Suck it
up! :-) (I always think of a particular episode of Monk when I hear
this.)

I get great morning mileage out of a block heater and a little space heater
inside the cabin. Never scrape a window again!

even the monkeys at worst buy should be able to do this. People in ND
are generally smarter than worst buy monkeys, unless the NDers are druggies.

On a gasser it should be basically no big deal. Chase the wires from
the switch, you'll need "on" and "start" and "ground".
Start shouldn't be hot unless on and the neutral safety switch both
are but it'd be worth testing that before you really trust it.
Loads of people stupider than you and I do this all the time. I bet
most every stereo shop sells remote starters. If it were a diesel it
might be a challenge but not on a gasser...

I sent him off with the block heater from my parts area. I do not know if he
installed it. He does have plug in at home, but not at work. Might be nice
for him to be able to light off the car at work so it is sort of warm to go
home.
