Correct, and the management is immoral and lacking in real solutions to their
finance problems.  Seek a new employer, this stop gap won't solve the
underlying problems.

You forget that the USA is all about capitalism and the dream of being
wealthy. 70+ million people voted for a recent now ex-President who was
all about making money in any way possible for himself and helping his
friends to do the same but who had no empathy for the lower classes of
poorer people. Even though he wouldn't do a thing for them, they voted
for him because he told them he had a plan to make the country great and
they all assumed they would make more money.

Companies hire business grads who have been taught how to make money. It
is not about making a better product these days. It is all about how to
make things cheaper and sell them for more so that the company
executives can rake in the cash.

Apparently you live in a state with no employee protections. In MA you can't
do that, when you layoff a position you're saying "we don't need this position
anymore". You can't turn right around and say you do actually need that
position. If you do the former employee is eligible for compensation...

300 people, with 12 yr. experience X $22.00 per hour + insurance and
retirement plan. VS 300 new hires, with 0 yrs experience X $7.00 per hour +
absolute minimum insurance and zero retirement plan.
Do the math, you run the place and get paid on quarterly profits... you
just gave yourself a raise, and look good for the board of directors.
So.. "You're Fired X 300
