Re: [MBZ] clock?

2017-07-05 Thread Dan--- via Mercedes
The older MB models (pre W116/W123) had mechanical clocks made by this company.
They had a mechanical movement that was wound through a sort of escapement
arrangement. There was a lever that had an electrical contact on it, that when
closed, would energize a solenoid that would move the lever to the end of its
travel, which wound a spring that ran the clock. As the spring unwound, the
lever would move back to the closed position, closing the circuit to energize
the solenoid again.

I don't recall the interval of time this took, but it was a pretty novel setup.
As long as you had battery voltage available the clock would continue to keep
itself wound.

Okiebenz is offlimits, i.e. mercedeslist does not acknowledge its existence.
Okiebenz has a lower reader age than mercedeslist. Many threads at
mercedeslist involve joint replacement, hearing aids, pain meds,
cataracts, and other more typically retired folk issues. No problem
with those topics. They have a depth of knowledge about the marque
that might rival okiebenz.

engages , skips engaged and starts the engine and when the car warms up all is
fine.
naturally i have checked the flywheel teeth 2 times now and its fine
has any body had a starter with a armature that skips in side the bendix

That happened to the clock in our most recent SL. What you will
probably

find is that _both_ electrolytic capacitors in the clock are shorted.
(All three discussed circuit elements are effectively in series across
the power supply, so when both caps short the resistor takes one up the
exhaust pipe.) Replace them. The resistor may in fact still be OK,
IIRC it's about 120 ohms. Ours was OK, after two new caps the clock
started working flawlessly.

I have a few of the marginal capacitor clocks. I guess I should find a
source for fresh ones and replace them.

I rebuilt the cluster with working speedo and oil gauge to go along
with the clock. Did a dot of paint on the screws, still there. The
multimeter found continuity where it needed.

Just the standard poor quality fuses, which are fresh again.

Re: [MBZ] clock stopped

2005-08-09 Thread Curt Raymond

I'm a senior tech for a company that makes video editing software, recently
I've been supervising some kids working for us at an outsource company in
Canada. The hardest thing has been teaching them to look at the simple stuff
first. Just yesterday one of them was trying to help a guy figure out why his
fonts didn't work. After working on it for 15 minutes he finally asked me, I
had him check the fonts folder... Gee the fonts he wants aren't there, shocker.

Is there 12v. to the clock in the cluster? Continuity to ground (a known
good ground point)?
