Not sure how you can equate the W140 chassis with the rod bender
engine when it was introduced in the W126. People also equate the
evaporator and wiring harness failures to the W140 but I suspect there
are just a few W124 owners who have had some bad experiences in these
areas as well.

But weren't the W124 evaporators pretty much straightened out by 1992?

Hmmm, that is the reason I owned a '76 Dasher wagon, a '75 Nova, an
'84 diesel chevyvan - all of which rusted in the midwest, but were
surviving well
I bought a GM minivan while waiting for a replacement hose for the old
W124. As my English friends would say, it works exactly as it says on the
side of the tin. Everything up here takes a beating with the salt too!! I

But weren't the W124
No, they were bad all the way along. Something about copper tubing
swaged onto aluminum. Even a biologist like me knows that's going to
fail, sooner or later the differential expansion will cause enough
stress corrosion for them to leak.
